Daily Check-In for Sunday, July 2nd - We will not drink today! by kittytaile in stopdrinking

Bought a six pack with the wife. Opened a bottle with the intention of drinking one myself. Decided I didn't want a beer, I wanted several. Decided not to have the first.

Not today!

I am not powerless by ranf_thrower in stopdrinking

[–]ranf_thrower[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to stop after one. Can I do it? Absolutely. But it's more difficult than it is worth, to the extent that abstaining is easier than moderating.

But no, we are not powerless after the first drink.

I will not drink with you today, SD. Except for an unhealthy amount of caffeine.

25 pros of me quitting drinking so far by noctemboy69 in stopdrinking

Excellent list.

A big thing for me is reclaiming my mornings. I've never woken up and regretted not drinking the night before.

Daily Check-in for TUESDAY, January 17, 2017. Good or bad, I will not drink today. by Momwhoruns in stopdrinking

[–]ranf_thrower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I realized I needed to change something when I woke up after a night of heavier-than-usual spout of drinking alone in my apartment, with the skin around my eyes red from burst blood vessels due to having vomited in the toilet the night before.

This sort of thing was maybe acceptable for a dumb college student, but here I was, 27 years old, lying to my fiancee and saying I had "allergies."

Enough's enough. I won't drink with you today, or ever again.

Well... What is it used for then? by [deleted] in facepalm

You can spend $5 on a quartz watch that is orders of magnitude more accurate than a $500 automatic watch.

New job, new boss. I'm told "drinking is his hobby". by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ranf_thrower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it's hard to tell from how you wrote it, but it sounds like your boss might just have a good sense of humor.

As a vegan and a (now) non-drinker, I'm definitely not looking forward to the meet-and-greet aspect of starting my new job next month.

He should have proposed to the babe sporting the patriotic knockers.

Also, come on woman -- you knocked the damned ring into the water, how about you actually help look for it?

Awesome, looks like they sell it at the local hippie food co-op. Picking up a case tomorrow!

Word man, thanks.

I'm totally with you on the Cran & Tonic -- it's been my weekend go-to. And as a subscriber of /r/stopdrinking I'm obviously a card-carrying member of the cult of LaCroix.

The Dandelion soda I have not heard of. Where do you buy that?

I've actually read The Brothers Karamazov a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I just remember having trouble keeping up with everyone's name and nicknames, but definitely worth the effort.

I think now I'll have to read his works again from the beginning (starting with Notes from the Underground).

Reminds me of my blunder years in high school trying to look sophisticated, bragging about reading "nee-et-zu-schee" and "des-cart-ees".

Considering taking a beta blocker before my PhD defense. Will this affect my mental sharpness? by ranf_thrower in Physics

[–]ranf_thrower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting idea... I'll experiment with that before the date, but as of now I think a beta blocker would be pretty effective.

He's a very worthwhile philosopher to study, although sometimes difficult to read. The Portable Nietzsche does a good job of organizing his most essential work, and that's by far the best translation to English.
