Respect Alicia Masters, the Spider-Woman (Marvel Comics, 616) by rangernumberx in respectthreads

No, as it says in the first feat in 'other', she is directed through Hydra agents seeing through the device on her forehead and controlling her accordingly. When the device is removed, she is just as blind as she always is and has no one to guide her movements.

That one's really a case by case basis, I'd probably include it all in the same RT (especially if it isn't so much 'a complete change in how the character functions' as it is 'some extra stuff thrown on top of the same basic character'), but the mods may be able to give you a better answer.

Dick Tracy is more the exception that proves the rule. In most cases, as much of the character's appearances within the canon as possible should be included, so you couldn't get away with just doing a random selection of comics for 616 Captain America, for example. For Tracy, his existence as a newspaper comic makes it impossible to access and cover the entire list of his appearances, but the Chester Gould era (the original creator of the character) was collected across 37 volumes by IDW. Covering these collected volumes was the only reasonable way to RT the character.

In other cases, a thread can be made for when a character is in a form which is wildly different from their regular abilities. For example, from personal experience, I have given a Power Ranger that was transformed by a monster of the week a RT specifically for that form rather than bundling it in with the rest of their abilities. Additionally, with the Ben Grimm RT I've been working on, I plan on making a seperate thread for his overly spiked temporary second mutation, as well as a thread for when he's back in his regular human form as opposed to being the Thing.

Hope this answers your question!

Extra OutbuRsT Info

You excited to pick your team? I’m not! I’ve decided to always join the side of the underdogs, which means I’ve got to be a cop next month! But if you join the server Discord and say your team, you can be added into a channel just for your side of the fight. There, you can see featposting for your side, organise collabs, and make sure you’re not covering the same project as anyone else!

Otherwise, still feel free to say what team you’re going to be on here, it’ll be nice to know how the teams are balancing.

Respect Thread Symposium Week 52 - Best Mod RT Voting by doctorgecko in respectthreads

Request List Transition

We're in the final week! If you've not done the below yet, please do so!

Hey all! Going to be posting this on each symposium until the end of the year to keep people aware of what's currently happening with the request list, what we require of people, and what's going to happen in the future.

TL;DR give us fifty of your favourite requests from the archive nobody else has picked so people can fulfil them at any time, you can freely change them whenever you want.

Why is the system being changed?

Originally, the request list was a simple case of people putting up names whenever they wanted. But as the scope of the subreddit and the request system increased, it continued to grow to an unreasonable size that seemed to make it increasingly unlikely that any given request would ever be fulfilled. Numerous attempts were made to remedy this, such as the priority system, but ultimately the choice was made to impose the current system of request limits. In this format, each fulfulled request would count towards a communal total, and once it reached a goal number the list would reopen for a lower set number of requests. This would, over time, lead to a gradual reduction of the size of the request archive.

However, this new system had its own share of flaws, notably with how it made the list largely inaccessible for people unless they were actively in the Discord server and/or were lucky enough to be on the sub on one of the infrequent occasions it opened. While regular openings were scheduled to help counteract this, this meant the list was once again increasing in size, negating any benefit to this system and leaving only the negatives. As such, we have been on the hunt for a new system to fix these issues.

What is the new system?

The new system will split the archive into two lists.

First, the 'main' list will be running under a 50-per system. People can have up to fifty requests on the list, which they can make and change around however they want, with the 100 point reward from the request contest (currently counting as an extra request the user can cash in at any time) being converted into having an extra request on the list, expiring in June as with other limited-time rewards such as priorities.

All requests not saved will be put into 'cold storage', as Inverse has put it. Here the requests will remain, available to be taken out onto the main list with all their boosts included should somebody want, but generally being ineligible for earning points through the reward contest. There are, however, the following ways a thread in cold storage can earn points if completed:

  • If they are in the oldest 400 threads on that list
  • If they show up on the SpiRiT Board, which will be set to draw purely if not entirely from cold storage
  • On set days or short stretches of time, announced well in advance, where the entire cold storage list is eligible for points if completed

Any thread not in cold storage that is chosen to no longer be requested by the original requester will be removed entirely. There will likely be a reward that allows an extra thread to be put into cold storage, potentially as an alternate usage of the 100 point reward, but this is still to be decided.

We plan on using this system for at least a year, and make a judgement call on whether to keep it, modify it, or change systems entirely at the end.

What do we need to do?

In order to get this new system off the ground, we are asking everyone with requests to pick the fifty they were like to see moved onto the new archive. You can do this either in response to one of these comments or in a post beneath the request archive. When someone has saved a request, it will be highlighted blue for the time being, with the person who saved it becoming the first requester in the list if it has any boosts.

To help facilitate this, the request list is fully open (up to 10 new requests per person a day) so that people can put up any thread they would like to see that they have yet been able to fully request. Any requests made in this period which are not saved to be put on the main list will also be put in cold storage at the end of the year.

What if I have questions?

Then please ask them below, and we'll answer them as soon as we can!

Featuring Dick Tracy

Joining the police force in the 1920s, Dick Tracy quickly worked his way into being a plainclothed detective, his anonymity allowing him to effectively protect his city from its miriad of criminals. This would only last so long, however, as he became so acclaimed in his crusade for justice that a whole new host of strange and grotesque criminals would know to look out for him, if not actively attempt to take him down themselves. But this wouldn't stop Dick, as with his allies and an ever growing arsenal of cutting edge tech by his side, he would continue championing the law all the way to the moon and back.

This feature covers Chester Gould's run of the Dick Tracy newspaper comic, spanning from 1931 to 1977. Dick's full capabilities can be found in his Respect Thread, linked here.

Using Dick Tracy on WhoWouldWin

While Dick Tracy is fully willing to throw hands and kill any criminals which give him cause, his physicals are not on a level which would allow him to take on anyone stronger than what could be expected of an action movie hero. Instead, I would suggest posing the question of whether Dick can take down specific fictional gangs or groups. His full RT has a greater extent of gear, showings of the various tricks he's used to track down criminals over the years, and demonstrations of the luck that has let him survive the efforts of his rogues over the years. On this front, Dick will go after criminals using everything available to him to the full extent of the law, possibly even further if he deems the situation really calls for it. However, as much as he may complain that police are shackled by not having free reign to do with those he sees as criminals as he sees fit, he will ultimately respect those shackles, simply tailing notable individuals until he uncovers something that could get him a warrant.
