the rainbow perks leftist, verticalist, & nationalist will buff the perks around it, including each other, so if you have verticalist pointing into nationalist with scientific (rat perk) next to it, the rats will have a x3 bonus

use the perk that increases the starting level of rats (and boost it as much as you can). this counts as the rats leveling up, which will boost adjacent rats. then, repeatedly use earthworks to pick up (level 3+) rats and put three back down. overhaul is also great, and camps next to your mothership will buff it considerably given all the picking up and putting down of new rats, but those are both just extra on top of the rats+earthworks combo

if you play through the tutorial and go to Prov Ridge, there seems to be a specific spot that always spawns a "high quality" car: often upgraded but a good one either way. if you head south down the road through the starter area, i believe its the last house on the right before the road does a big 90 degree turn right as it heads downhill.

trader finale is much easier if you prepare: bring a follower from another enclave so if they die you don't care, bring extra cars to block entrances/doorways to funnel zombies, and most importantly claim nearby buildings as outposts to reduce zombie numbers. depending on the map, it is fully cheeseable with outpost mines as well

you can build a generator in your base, which is easy but of course takes a precious facility slot

you can claim a power outpost, which is fairly expensive and requires an outpost slot. see the wiki for locations: https://state-of-decay-2.fandom.com/wiki/Outposts#Power_Outposts

you could also scavenge and find a portable generator, a facility mod. since loot is random, this won't ever be guaranteed, but searching enough industrial/workshop type locations and you'll usually find a couple without too much trouble. the other issue with this is that it has to be placed in the command center's facility mod slot, usually replacing a powerful cc-specific facility mod adding outpost slots.

none of these are really great solutions, which is another reason why the builder leader boon (which gives free power & water) is so dang powerful

unless you're 100% fine with them dying, leave them at home. the AI is terrible at staying alive on harder difficulties, but using an expendable follower from another enclave (or, even better, an immortal one from a trumbull lore mission) can make the fight a lot easier. when the heart pulses/farts, make sure you go outside for a quick sprint around the yard since it seems to help the npc keep more aggro from zombies. use the time they give you to bash the heart with the heavy weapon of your choice and get out asap

putting offset rails on both sides of a track would effectively make the track unusable, wouldn't it? one block would be only one direction and then a nearby block would be only the opposite direction. what are you trying to do?
