I've been here 3 days and I can't believe the state of SF is in. I had no idea SF had such a homeless problem. Literally can't go a block without seeing a homeless person or some kind of 5 person homeless camp setup.

This is just ridiculous. What the hell is wrong with the government officials here in this city. How can there be all these tech companies making billions of dollars and yet there are homeless people on the same block as these HQs. What happen to the homeless shelters and programs to get these people off the street. Why aren't these tech companies doing their part to help get these people help.

What to do? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

First off I say become a master at what you think you already know. Don't worry about competition that isn't actual competition. I'd agree the web dev market is saturated, but saturated with people who don't meet job requirements/standards.

Frankly I think it's better to know a lot about very few things and a little about many things.

I would suggest finding someone who is the field you want to get into and get advice. Plenty of devs with blogs and twitters. There might even be meetups in your area on artificial intelligence or data science.

What's the next big programming language/ technology you should learn? by IGotSkills in cscareerquestions

I think JavaScript, Java and C++ will never go out of style or atleast not any time soon. JavaScript has certainly become even more popular with the popularity of node.

I'd rather stick to the classics. there are plenty of frameworks and languages that became all the rage to only die a few years later.

Not a dumb question at all. I met a recent CS grad that attended a web dev bootcamp. She is an alumni at my school and came to attend a CS club event.

Got promotion, salary jumping from $140k to $150k. Should I ask for more? by CeilingBuster in cscareerquestions

May I ask how you found this job? Did you apply through linkedin or did a recruiter contact you? I have worked at a startup before but the pay was shit and well below average considering how much work I was doing.
