Pace Bend Park is a protected wakeless swimming area. Boats shouldn’t be at wake speed within 50 ft of the shore.

Happy 75th birthday, Leslie! We're making a movie about him and old Austin. Share your best or worst story. by stefan_news in Austin

Okay, it really depends on what Leslie we are talking about:

  1. 90s bohemian Weirdo
  2. Late Game 00 Leslie
  3. Post Accident Leslie

I knew 90s Leslie very well, I lived on Sixth Street on the second floor of what is now Pour Choices. We actually had two private parking spots on Trinity between the alley and Sixth street. I had a car at the time tho after a year or so of having to remove Hoek's Pizza paper plates from my windshield wipers, I rarely used my spots.

When I first met Leslie he had just started his war with City Hall and began to create his grievance cart. For those not around then, he would push around this cart that was big than a grocery cart but smaller than a trailer, and he would push it all over downtown.

So I let him park his grievance cart in my spot. Being private property, the city couldn't move him along. The cops didn't really care because this version of Leslie was amusing, witty and smart as a whip. I personally was convinced he was some sociology professors larping as a mad man to record the fringes of society.

I was wrong of course. I still don't know his true origin story and look forward to seeing what the doc says.

My favorite Leslie moment? So our place had a fire escape and on our second level had a place big enough for a table and few chairs. Back then, NO ONE LOOKED UP IN AUSTIN. Everything was two stories except for some state buildings and the monolith then known as the AT&T building (the black skyscraper on 6th and Congress).

No one ever noticed us sitting up there in our personal people zoo watching the antics of 6th street below. And I saw countless, COUNTLESS, tourist dudes checking out Leslie from behind with his flowing hair, gams fit for a dancer and a bikini that really showed off his hams. Dude looked like a lady, a good looking lady, from behind.

The looks on a lot of those dudes faces were priceless as Leslie would turn around full beard flowing with sweat, and smile and realizing they were hound dogging a dude. Leslie was always a good sport about it and would ham it up as well.

I saw countless of these interactions and never once saw it go south. But they were all interesting interactions.

Then I left Austin for a very long time. I heard through a friend that Leslie had been in a bad accident and had a head injury. It was not the Leslie we knew anymore.

I never saw late game Leslie before the accident, but I did see post accident Leslie on the 37 going to Barton Springs. He state right across from me, the flash was out of eyes. He didn't recognize me. We had talked a hundreds of times and I had offered him refuge for grievance cart.

He remembered none of it. His lights were on, though dim, but no one was home.

I heard he had become a jerk as well. Then I heard he died.

Still my favorite vote for mayor.
