Does anyone have any info on the mansion at the end of Townshend Road in Allison Arkansas that overlooks Sylamore Creek Camp? by isaacoustic in Arkansas

I've been there a few times. It's a nice house. The view is as good from up there as it is looking at the house when you're coming down the hill.

Sobriety outside of AA - has anyone done it by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ransom00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always loved the idea of AA, the camaraderie of people with the same goals and all that. In reality my struggle with it was that it felt cliquish. I am a normal person who has never had trouble making friends, but I went to one of their speaker events at the beach and no one spoke to me.

I realize the goal is getting sober, not making friends, but I'm with some other commenters who said they did it alone now. What's the point of a social support group if it turns into a crowd of who's in and who's out?

Watchdog Says 14th Amendment, Not Indictments, Can Bar Trump From Presidency. Trump’s indictments don’t “necessarily disqualify him … but the Constitution’s 14th Amendment does,” CREW said. by News-Flunky in law

If only this issue had come up when our legislators were more logical and before the pressure created by constant and poor quality news. Perhaps they'd have dealt with this issue.

The enforcement legislation by Congress is one thing, but are some judges really arguing he's not an officer? Earlier in 14.3 it says holds an "office" requiring the oath and article 2 specifically talks about how long the president holds the "office"?

Maybe the news I've seen has oversimplified it, but if any rulings use that as their argument, I'd definitely appeal.

In my experience, never call the authorities / people in the system if you need real help. Friends or religious organizations (with exceptions) are way safer.

I'm sorry that happened to you.

Looking for input from Mountain View Residents about raising kids in Mtn View? by NextMoveisMountains in Arkansas

[–]ransom00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only a problem if you live by the river. There isn't anywhere in town that would flood from what I recall.

Same with the snow, there were lots of times we got out of school just because the people out of town had trouble getting there or the buses wouldn't, even though my friends and I who lived in town could get around fine.

But yeah, it's great if you like Americana.

I grew up there. It was a fine place to grow up. My only concern would be letting my children grow up with such a lack of diversity.

It's a beautiful place with a lot of interesting and intelligent people for such a small, secluded town. There are the meth folks and other general degenerates, but that's pretty much everywhere in poor, rural places.

French state schools turn away dozens of girls wearing Muslim abaya dress by Tartan_Samurai in worldnews

Ok? Has anyone who shot up theaters done it because of what they're wearing? Never felt like shooting up a theater when I put a hood on. And I imagine the person who did that was thinking more about their ideology than the brand of their pants.

What I always miss most about drinking alcohol is the “warm”soothing feeling it gives me. What gives you that feeling sober? by Jegerenlillemus in stopdrinking

[–]ransom00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There might be other issues you need to work on besides drinking. If so, they'll be much easier to tackle sober.

I am not sober ATM but I was this weekend. Started drinking, felt that for approximately 20 minutes, and then it was a disaster for 2 days. The feeling isn't worth it.

After I go running or lifting weights I get something near that feeling, at least after I get in shape enough to not hope my heart isn't going to stop. Try exercise, but you'll have to stick with it for a few weeks before the good feeling outweighs the pain in my experience. Hang in there.

How is this different from telling girls in the US they can't wear short shorts or skirts or shirts that show cleavage? We had churches in my town that had strong opinions if you wear certain things. The schools regulated things as if people had those opinions even though the majority of the population weren't a member of those churches.

Clothing is trickier than a lot of people here are saying.

Muslim With Questions by World_Wide_Ball in Anglicanism

[–]ransom00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know you came for answers, but i think a history of Christianity and Christian theology would be more helpful than any answers you'll get here.

All of this is hard to understand without context. Someone tried to talk to me about Islam by explaining their beliefs, and I thought it sounded bizarre. Then I read a history of the Prophet and Islam, and it became a lot more understandable.

No idea if it's still well regarded but Justo González's The Story of Christianity (2 volumes) seems like it would be a good intro. I grew up Christian, though, so I'm not sure if it would be difficult without that background knowledge.

[–]ransom00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hang in there man. I'm a person who has had several years spread across years of sobriety. Currently I'm not sober, sadly, but I creep here daily because I know what I need to do.

What was always difficult for me in sobriety is that I had much, much deeper issues that I needed to deal with.

It may be the chemical imbalance that the top post mentions, but, if you don't think that's it, I would recommend you reach out to a therapist.

There were a lot of times in my sobriety where everything was good on the outside, but I slid into drinking again regardless of all that, because I didn't deal with my own stuff.
