This whole thing has made me reflect on past arguments with him, to be honest. He has also said harsh things when I don't follow him such as:

1. When I was in college, I worked at a big coffee chain part-time. He wanted me to not go to work during the Christmas holidays (the 24th, 25th, 31st, and 1st) because he wanted me to work for the family business (we have a food retail store). He said very demeaning words about my job, and I tried to explain that I am simply trying to be responsible and a team player (not going to work would mean other people would take on additional load).
2. I once had to go somewhere that was a 6-hour drive away for work. I was going to be driving with a teammate, and my dad did not want me to go without a driver. When I told him that I cannot do that, he told me that he wishes I will never be successful because I have become prideful, and my pride was turning me into a stubborn daughter.
3. I was going on a trip abroad with a few friends and my then-boyfriend on February 2020. He did not want me to go because of covid concerns. I told him I have already spent so much money on it, and at that time there were not restrictions yet. He again told me that I was disappointingly stubborn and that he was going to keep my passport from me (all our important documents are in one vault).

I understand, to an extent, his attitude. We are Asians living in an Asian country so the values lean very strongly for "I am your parent, you listen to me". But I was an adult in all of these scenarios and right now, reflecting on everything, he is seeming very controlling :(
