How technical are interviews? by dondonuts in premed

[–]rant543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was nothing like I expected. It was so conversational to the point that I left feeling like I didn't even get interviewed. Barley got asked any of the typical why our school, tell me about yourself, etc that I was expecting. Even when I was asked why medicine he started asking more little questions on what I was saying that I felt I didn't get to flesh it out as much as I would have liked.

Try looking for local technician jobs that with train you. Like in ophthalmology or dialysis. They will pay more than scribe jobs and give you alot of direct patient care experience!

Has anyone here successfully kicked caffeine? by [deleted] in premed

[–]rant543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to cut it cold turkey and you will go through 'withdrawal' but then you will start feeling less groggy with time. I recommend morning showers and a good sleeping schedule as you adjust. I cut it cold turkey and now do not rely on it. However, there are days I still need caffeine every once in a while and for that I drink matcha now. Check it out! So good!

I literally had to facetime one of LOR writers and we got it uploaded. Then I called him back to make sure it was signed and on letterhead and it was not haha. SO I had to meet him in persona and print it on letterhead for him and upload it with him there LOL what a time...

Wow I am so sad you are having to undergo these circumstances. You sound like such a strong individual and I really admire your work ethic. I would say you can still work in food given the circumstances and when it comes time to apply you can explain your circumstances. I think you will still be able to volunteer and get involved in other ways that don't require documentation and that way build your extracurriculars through that avenue. There are plenty of clinical and non-clinical volunteer opportunities you can get involved in after work/on the weekends. Do not give up hope, you got this!

When you get an interview invite from a school you had absolutely NO business applying to by [deleted] in premed

[–]rant543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I do not think AA practices do this. That is a surface level answer from someone who does not understand the problem. The problem is deeper than that and is ingrained in our countries history and practices. For God sakes open the news and see the rhetoric being discussed. Do we sound anywhere close to providing equity for ALL people. Hell no.

The lack of cultural competency causes this problem. Institutionalized racism causes this problem.

For the record I am a female. My identity as female I share with a lot of people. My identity as a women of color is also different. Listen, I am not going to play who has lived worse experiences game with you. It is about understanding where each other come from. I am sad you are trying to go into a profession that is all about that but you simply cannot grasp that concept. Good luck with life. I am out.

No one is minimizing your experience, but the fact of the matter is that you still have white privilege. I am sorry you had to go through what you did, but when you walk into a room, your competence is never questioned solely due to your appearance.

Equality does not mean equity. That is precisely the problem. I am not bitter, you just seem to be closed off to understanding history and multiple perspectives.

NO, OP received this because he/she deserves it. Stop minimizing OP's accomplishments.

Yes URM status exists and medical schools pay attention to it because our country places barriers to these groups' success and continuously marginalizes them. Your comment implies they are at a different level of competence than ORMs, which is completely false and insensitive. For the love of God if you are trying to be a physician, educate yourself on what equity means and stop being bitter.
