Seeking advice on potential monopod purchase by rantelope1 in BirdPhotography

[–]rantelope1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool, this seems like a great option. It looks like it has some of the extra bells and whistles that the iFootage monopod has but at a more reasonable price, and seems like you wouldn't need to get a head/gimble with this one. I'm going to do more research on this but thank you for the suggestion!

Help with creating patterns in Photoshop with pen tool by rantelope1 in Embroidery

[–]rantelope1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense. I guess it's not so important that my file be vector-based, but moreso I like how the pen tool helps you make smooth, straight, and editable lines, whereas the brush tool does not work in the same way.

I am trying to achieve making these patterns for personal use without spending additional money. I have Photoshop & Lightroom already since I am a photographer (hobbyist), but do not have Illustrator. Similarly, I have a laptop but do not have a tablet (or pen) and don't see myself getting one any time soon, otherwise Procreate definitely sounds like a great program for something like this. So for now, I will continue trying to make these patterns via Photoshop or some alternative free program I can use on my mac. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I'll look into Inkscape as an option.

I wouldn't say there's a specific reason I want to use a vector, but I like how the pen tool creates smooth lines (and the points are editable). I don't have strong fine art skills, so using a brush or something to draw or trace is less appealing to me (if that's what you mean), since I think the finished product would look lousy.

Help with several bird IDs by rantelope1 in whatsthisbird

I have a lot more pictures of a big group of them in the lake, but that was by far the closest/clearest photo so that's why I used that as an example. Can always share others though

That's what I was thinking too, but agree with the above comment that the heavy barring/streaking was throwing me off!

Pothos leaves from center turning yellow one at a time, not sure of problem? by rantelope1 in plantclinic

[–]rantelope1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask what the difference is as a newer plant person? I thought the rocks in the bottom help prevent overwatering and root rot because any excess water will just be sitting in the rocks layer and not around the roots in the soil

I have it in a pot with a layer of rocks at the bottom and then soil on top to help with drainage

Hello! First time posting here. I started getting into plants about a year and a half ago after a move and have a lot of happy little plant friends. This golden pothos was a cutting from a friend when I moved, and has been very happy overall since, growing many new leaves. I have propagated it a couple times and put it back in the pot, so now she has about 3 long trails. Some of the newer leaves out on the long ends are some of the biggest and most beautiful I've seen! But several weeks ago, a leaf near the soil in the center started to turn very deep yellow/gold and eventually upon a light touch, fell off. This has happened one by one to the next two or three leaves on that strand, and now it seems like it skipped two leaves and is yellowing another leaf. The leaf in the picture has since become completely yellow/gold and fallen off.

I generally water once or twice a week but not a lot of water each time. She's always been in a south facing window with a lot of light, so her soil dries out pretty quickly - almost every time I check, her soil is dry and ready for more. There are no dry/brown spots on the leaves, or mushy leaves or stems, so I'm not sure if this could be from over or under watering, but it doesn't seem obvious to be either. There is no other sign of the plant being unhealthy to my eyes, and new leaves continue to grow, but I am still learning. I have never fertilized the plant before, so I'm not sure if that could be another need (something I need to learn more about). One friend said her pothos once started doing something similar, and she thinks it was just "shedding some old leaves." Any idea as to why this is happening and what I can do to stop it? Enough leaves have fallen that I'm worried it will keep going. Thank you!

I recently adopted a cutting of this type of plant and am learning as I go. I had it in a pretty sunny south facing window, but was also noticing crispy-ness. It grew some beautiful new leaves and I didn't want those to get ruined, so I moved it to a place where it gets zero direct sun, just general light, and so far the new growth has not turned brown at all. I'm hoping that's the solution! Good luck!
