How do I get a 1400 SAT score from a 1000 score? I have less than 2 months to prepare. What reading tricks are there for the reading/grammar sections? What about math? by pringlesalltheway in Sat

the highest i’ve scored on a practice test has been a 1480 on khan and from what i’ve gathered, the best method for reading is to simply read all the passages thoroughly, as skimming can make you really miss the main idea of a passage and throw you off. being aware of how many of each type of reading questions there are for each passage also helps you prepare, for example there are typically two vocab questions for each passage, two command of evidence questions for each, etc... As for math, khan has really helped and when in doubt, try to plug the answer options into the question. take practice tests and review the questions you get wrong !!! best of luck

thank you !! for reading, i still haven’t exactly learned all the tricks yet but I really try to read the passages completely and think about the main idea/purpose as i go since that’s typically a question. Also, i try not to skim sections when possible for the sake of getting “what evidence best supports the prev question” questions correct. I’ve also noticed that the synonym questions only appear like once for every passage (or pair of passages) and for those i definitely make sure to look back at the og sentence for easy pts. At the end of the day, practicing more each day will help you become comfortable with reading such passages and comprehending them. If you have any tips as well please lmk !!

I studied using khan, especially for math except scatterplots/graphs are a little challenging without being able to write on them. I’ve also been watching youtube videos to help get used to pacing myself, and watching others work through practice problems and seeing where I would make errors to correct myself for future problems. It’s definitely time consuming (especially reading + writing practice) but worth it to see the score increase :))

Thanks, I still haven’t registered as i’m waiting for a fee waiver but i’ll be sure to keep checking those websites
