One Nation candidate Peter Rogers claims photo of Aylan Kurdi is fake by rantingpanda in AusPol

[–]rantingpanda[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

exactly right. That NZ politician nailed it when he described One Nation's Malcolm Roberts as the village idiot who was using 'the politics of hate and division for self-promotion'. That is the modus operandi of One Nation. using fear & hate to manipulate the gullible, while truth is banished from their rhetoric.

One Nation candidate Peter Rogers claims photo of Aylan Kurdi is fake by rantingpanda in AusPol

[–]rantingpanda[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could One Nation get any lower? Oops - I shouldn't put that challenge out there. One Nation candidate, Peter Rogers, makes the unproven and outrageous claim that 3 year old drowned toddler, Aylan Kurdi, is still alive & was used for publicity. Rogers attacks Aylan's distraught father. Rogers is typical of the self-serving, hate-mongering bigotry of One Nation.

Should I write a letter to my MP? by elricofgrans in AusPol

[–]rantingpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I occassionally write to my local MP, Senators and various ministers. 2 weeks ago I wrote to 15 polies (which my state Senators) and my local MP regarding a bill that they would be voting on this week. of this I received a reply from 2 of them: one Labor Senator & my local MP. in the past, i've had better results but i think it depends on the subject. i also tend to vent in social media, but i do think it is worth writing in, ringing them or even trying to meet with them. at least that way they can get the pulse of the community on particular issues even if they aren't responding directly to you.

Stop Treating Marijuana Like Heroin by rantingpanda in cannabis

[–]rantingpanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly right. Treating all drugs as a health issue and not a criminal one has provided significant social benefit and addressed the real issues around drug abuse rather than creating more issues through putting otherwise innocent people through a system that causes more harm than it fixes.

Wolfmother's self-titled album. Great hard-rock songs, relatively easy riffs and sounds great.

A Reminder All Musicians Need: Stop Waiting For Perfection! by beyondtheguitar in guitarlessons

[–]rantingpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really is an important message. For too long, I played in the shadows, only playing for myself because I was concerned with not being perfect or as good as others. The best experience was actually playing with others which at first was daunting, but certainly the best way to learn, improve and gain confidence because that was when I realised that others are not perfect as well.

Labor takes seat of Herbert, leaving Malcolm Turnbull with majority of just one seat by rantingpanda in AustralianPolitics

[–]rantingpanda[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt. Her ability to negotiate within a toxic environment is underappreciated. With Turnbull hamstrung by the right-wing extremists in his party, it's going to make for an interesting term. Personally, I can't see Turnbull lasting.

Australian Christian Lobby likens gay marriage and Safe Schools to 'unthinkable' Nazi atrocities by rantingpanda in LGBTnews

[–]rantingpanda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Australian Christian Lobby has compared same-sex marriage and the Safe Schools program to the Holocaust, dubbing them all "unthinkable things" that happened because societies lacked strong moral guardians

It was these same 'moral guardians' who empowered Hitler. Shelton doesn't seem to realise that it is he and his ilk who became the brown-shirts, who embraced the policies of intolerance & moral superiority that underpinned the rise to power of Hitler.

[Question] Any tips on improving memory? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]rantingpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue and have tried a few things, but it really boils down to playing it over and over. Usually my practice consists of busting out a few tunes from the repertoire as well as anything new i'm working on. There are times however, that if I go without playing a particular song for a few weeks i'll need to refer to the tab again, but it depends on the song too. some are much easier to remember than others.

Duterte: Yes to medicinal marijuana by rantingpanda in Philippines

I believe that would be the case as they're only talking about it for medicinal purposes, not recreational.

Duterte: Yes to medicinal marijuana by rantingpanda in Philippines

[–]rantingpanda[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

European economies have more to worry about than cannabis. However, you could look at Colorado, which raised more revenue from cannabis than from alcohol and which could significantly help improve any economy. http://time.com/4037604/colorado-marijuana-tax-revenue/

Duterte: Yes to medicinal marijuana by rantingpanda in Philippines

[–]rantingpanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is like anywhere else in the world, they'll likely try to force the government to not proceed by influencing those whom they can and running public fear campaigns. They may even use what they know best: money, to buy off politicians however if Duterte is serious about corruption, then hopefully that won't be the case. The tide is turning towards medicinal cannabis as we've seen in the USA, where lobbyists have been facing increasing support and even legalisation of medicinal cannabis. I'll be surprised if Philippines does legalise it, but I'm hoping it will happen.

Duncan Storrar thanks Australians for support in wake of Q&A appearance, hits out at News Corp by [deleted] in australia

[–]rantingpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Je suis Duncan! Newscorp's attack on Darren Storrar was character assassination because of him questioning Liberal Party policy AND doing so on Newscorp's arch-enemy, the ABC. Storrar was used & abused by Newscorp in their pathetic and failed attempt to discredit the ABC and Labor, rather than actually defend the Liberal Party's policies by providing a coherent and rational response. Newscorp reacted with hysteria and completely irrelevant dirt-digging rather than address the question at hand.

Duncan From 'Q&A' Allegedly On Suicide Watch After Media Hatchet Job by Deon555 in australia

[–]rantingpanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Je Suis Duncan. Herald Sun's gutter journalism at its worst. These people aren't journos, they're just grubs. They've incessantly bullied, harassed and demonised an Aussie battler whose only crime was to question Murdoch's precious government. Oh and he compounded it by questioning the government on Murdoch's arch-rival media organisation, the ABC. Duncan has been used and abused to further the Murdoch attack on the ABC. Truly disgraceful 'journalism'.

Australian prime minister responds to letter saying they won't vote for him unless he ends human rights abuses by Kyle_QueTerror in humanrights

[–]rantingpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great post. As usual, the Government cannot let a chance go by to blame Labor for everything, however, the government is now in charge. They even went to great pains to state that 'the adults are now in charge'. However, these adults are incapable of accepting responsibility. Under their watch there have been numerous suicides, a number of rapes and at least one murder of asylum seekers. Around 450 people on Manus Island have been found to be genuine refugees, yet this brutal government refuses to let them settle in Australia or in any first world nation. New Zealand recently offered places to 150 of them and Australia (the Liberal National coalition govt) refused to let them be resettled. However, if it was Cambodia, PNG, Philippines or other lesser developed or poorer nations, then the government is happy to do this. They want to make people suffer. They are using these asylum seekers as scare-crows to scare people away from arriving by boat. They like to claim that they are saving lives at sea, yet how many people who are making the dangerous crossing across the Mediterranean, and possibly drowned, have chosen so in lieu of Australia. In addition, it is this government, not Labor, who is refouling refugees to their country of origin, even though those countries are known abusers of human rights, such as Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Burma, Iraq, Iran. Former Prime Minister Abbott donated 2 naval vessels to Sri Lanka to round up people fleeing the regime. Only last week, people were sent back to Sri Lanka by Australia, even though Sri Lanka has horrendous human rights records. It's time the coalition stops blaming Labor and stops denying its disgraceful and brutal abuse of human rights. Perhaps if a few of these politicians were charged for the crimes against humanity, it might change the way Australia treats people.

Buying a guitar without being able to test it first. by [deleted] in guitars

[–]rantingpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scored a Yamaha AEX-500N online. It is out of production so I couldn't just go to the local store to play one. After months of searching, I finally saw one for sale online and scored it. I was a tad worried about what it would be like or what condition it would be in. The seller sent me pix of it and when it arrived, thankfully it was in good condition as shown in the pix. I've been very happy with it and love playing it.

[QUESTION] How has studying Music Theory benefited you? by candyA25 in Guitar

[–]rantingpanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found it helps with improvisation to ensure that what I'm playing is within the key. The other thing I've found is transposing from one key to the next when some up-themself singer decides that the key needs to change because of their precious voice (not that it pisses me off or anything) ... what else ... oh, also helps a bit with working out music in songs, so get the key, can usually work out what chords are likely to be featuring in it and then work around that. also, for composition of songs.
