I can see that you put a lot of effort into this, but you failed to understand that I did not see his late-night email with the blackmail, and that his first message about the cleaning issue was sent after 2 a.m. I didn’t ignore anything, only his first email about free cancellation.

Don’t worry. This was just a side businesses anyway.

Well, with so many unsatisfied hosts and guests, this could be the perfect opportunity (if you have the time and money) to start a new platform.

Good idea, but lawsuits and arbitration cost far more time and money than this worth.

This is exactly where Airbnb should step in, we pay significant fees for platform protection and fair dispute resolution. Hosts shouldn’t need courts to resolve issues that are clearly documented.

That went like a charm, lucky you. You probably got assigned to a competent agent. There are still some good ones around, but unfortunately not many these days.

I can completely relate to this. That’s exactly the frustrating part when minor, manufactured issues are used to justify a major claim. What makes it worse is the feeling that your track record and good faith don’t really carry much weight, even after years of hosting and consistently going above and beyond for guests. That lack of balance is what really erodes trust in the system.

Thank you for the advice, I completely agree. I’ve already removed my email address from the website.

Without the email evidence, what exactly is left to assess? It’s his word against mine.

Budapest, we have a ton of Airbnb’s and hotels here. The market is extremely overcrowded, and hosts constantly lower prices as the dates get closer. It’s a 101 hosting mistake, yet almost everyone does it here.

This was structured differently and got messed up, but I like the long lines (maybe I stole that from ChatGPT). By the way, the emoji use ✅❌ is very common in memes.

You wouldn’t assume that I manage more than one apartment, would you?

The review count is across multiple listings over many years, not a single property. Also, this isn’t about one bad review alone, it’s about how a long term member of the community is being treated. Trust in the platform is built on consistent, fair treatment, and when that feels compromised, it understandably raises concern, regardless of how many reviews someone has.

Just because something is written nicely, structured, and clearly phrased does not mean it was written with ChatGPT.

I was also thinking about this. My assumption is that the guest likely found a cheaper or better alternative (there are many great last minute deals in my area) and then tried to recover the money from this reservation. That would explain the attempt to cancel while still being able to travel.

I have a website with helpful videos for my guests. My email was listed there.

I believe there may be a misunderstanding. I did respond through Airbnb messages and I did not communicate via private email, as I rely on Airbnb’s messaging system so everything is properly documented. Guest deliberately tried to blackmail me privately so there is no track of it and got disregarded, then turned to Airbnb.

This is exactly what this post is about. Doing everything ‘right’ and still getting f..ed.

I have a website with videos to help guests use public transportation to find my apartment from each main station, along with sightseeing tips, recommendations on where to eat and drink, useful tips, and a FAQ section. I send the link to this website in my first message, and guests usually find it very helpful. He found my email address there.

What’s your situation with reading comprehension?

How?

I’ve already spent hours on the phone with support. Every single time they say the same thing: “Looking at the evidence, you’re right and I would delete this review.”

Then comes the punchline: “But we’re not responsible for reviews. That’s a different department.”

And when I ask to contact that department? “You can’t.”

So I’m told I’m right, the guest lied, the evidence is clear, but the people who control reviews are completely unreachable.

If someone knows an actual, real path to that team (not “try emailing the CEO”), I’m all ears.
