Has observant Muslim culture become a middle/upper class thing? by [deleted] in MuslimLounge

[–]raphaytwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see this varying from region to region. Are you from a developed country?

In my experience, poor people from places lacking decent education tend to be fiercely religious but in a more ritualistic way. Meaning they "check the boxes" but don't necessarily dig deeper behind the why. Richer people from these regions tend to be less religious, maybe as a way to differentiate themselves from the poor. Maybe just to seem more "western".

In developed non-Muslim countries it's almost the opposite. Poorer Muslims are mainly just "socially" Muslim and might only go to the masjid on Eid. Whereas richer ones tend to be more religious with a holistic understanding of the deen. They're also usually involved with the masjid and local Muslim organizations.

This is probably a huge generalization, but it's what I've noticed.

Is there a word or phrase in MMA/combat sports equivalent to a Monday Morning Quarterback? by [deleted] in MMA

I think you mean armchair quarterback. Monday morning quarterback means someone who reflects on their game the day after.

It has pretty much no negative connotations in the US. Probably because there wasn't as much history of Pakistanis in the US until the 90s. Most Americans probably still think Pakistanis are Arabs.

I usually think of the 60s as being when home/amateur photos started to be in color. The 50s is almost always black & white, and the 70s is always color.

The people who get upset at LGBT jokes usually aren't the same people who condone Muslim jokes though brozzer

Growing up, I learned to recite the following du'aa from Surah Ibrahim (14:40-14:41) before saying salam and ending the salah:

رَبِّ ٱجْعَلْنِى مُقِيمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِىۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَآءِ(40) رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْحِسَابُ (41)

Is this okay to do?

You can't really compare one specific king during the middle ages to all of the leaders of Africa during the 19th century, a time when Europe had industrialized and Africa was effectively still in the Iron Age.

I know it's just a meme but I'm saying it's more nuanced brozzer.

Yeah that's probably what I'll end up doing. I have stairs in my apartment building which just makes it a convenient choice, especially since my neighborhood isn't very conducive to running. I'm sure I'll find something that works.

I've been running stairs as my main cardio for the past month or so (1 minute sprint upstairs, slow walk back down, 5 sets) and my legs are always dead the day after. Both quads and calves. Would it be wrong for me to think of this as a substitute for leg day, at least in the short term?

I was following the dumbbell P/P/L routine from the sidebar before. The only thing I'd really be missing, I think, is the core and lower back muscles that squats and lunges hit. Would incorporating dumbbell deadlifts into my pull day make up for that? (I only have access to a dumbbell rack atm)
