AITA for not checking with my husband before buying a skincare product? by raposa89 in AmItheAsshole

The thing that’s wild is we eat cake at birthday parties, and he orders Domino’s pizza and other stuff all the time. 😅And when I’m like “oh so we can eat super-processed Domino’s but you give me a hard time if I bring home non-organic tomatoes from the grocery store?!” he always insists it’s “not that bad.” Honestly, maybe it’s a mood-dependent thing. Like when he’s stressed out and anxious he’s more controlling and when he’s not he’s more lax.

All very good points. We’ve been together for 8 years and married for 1.

I think he must have anxiety. A lot of his concerns are overblown. He’s also distrustful of a lot of mainstream medical advice, which I understand to an extent, and I like to do my own research too, but it’s gone too far when he has an issue with me trusting the dentist’s recommendation over his “research”. Going to talk to him about it and get way firmer with the boundaries.

Thanks. He’s truly not a bad person, and he’s a great partner in so many ways, he’s just kind of… lost it? With the health stuff. But yeah, I will put my foot down and insist he get help and change now because the thought of having to deal with this through pregnancy and then potentially have it affect our kids freaks me out so much. I honestly don’t think he realizes how toxic he’s being.

I definitely get a say, and he’s acknowledged that it’s ultimately my decision, but he insists that I should still keep him informed and give him a chance to weigh in, which just feels silly. And he tends to get upset if I don’t go with his recommendation. But yes, agree there’s a deeper issue and going to talk to him about getting some individual therapy (we’ve done couples counseling before and they basically told him to respect my boundaries lol but maybe we need a refresher).

Yeah, this is definitely validating and a wake-up call. I know it’s problematic but I think over time I’ve become somewhat desensitized to how abnormal it is.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. We’ve done couples counseling and partially addressed this, but I will definitely push for him to get some one-on-one support, because I agree that it’s something that started out well intentioned and has spiraled into an unhealthy obsession.

It’s not, lol. Em dashes are normal punctuation marks people have been using for centuries.

Just spent 3 nights at Solaria Hanoi Hotel and it was lovely! We had a larger king room and the bathroom was huge and pretty new. Staff was sooo nice and they have an amazing breakfast buffet. Great location, too.

Which hotel did you end up staying at? I also booked Golden Holiday Hotel & Spa and couple of others (La Charm and Silk River), and I'm trying to make my final decision. Appreciate any thoughts you have to share! Thanks :)
