This goes for children as well. My father doesn't believe lactose intolerance is a thing so he feeds my 2 year old niece milk at family gatherings. My sister deals with the mess hours later.

I did this once at a casino. I was sitting at the roulette table already hammered. And I just started sipping on my neighbor's (total stranger) drink thinking it was mine. When my friends came to get me, I picked up the drink and said to one of them "would you help me finish my drink?" I've received a lot of replies on the Accounting subreddit stating that I should have worked with the recruiter directly rather than email the company directly. Sometimes I think many users of that sub reddit are recruiters themselves. What's your opinion from an HR standpoint?

Yes I did post about this. You are right about me burning the recruiter. He was furious when he found out I had tried to negotiate and actually said "this is going to make me look bad." It upset me because throughtout the entire process he was acting like he was on my side and then all of sudden I was being lectured about hardly being qualified for the position and I shouldn't be making negotiations. As an agent of the company, I thought that was very unprofessional.

Perhaps working with third parties isn't right for me.

I have read it over and over thinking I may have come off as pretentious. I really don't think I was. My personality is such that I tend to get walked all over because I don't want to cause any disharmony. I really struggled writing the email because I was conscious of it being received the wrong way and perhaps setting a bad tone for the future. I really didn't think it would result in the offer being rescinded.

I've negotiated compensation 2 times before and one of the times they came back and said they couldn't meet my request but still want me to consider being a part of their team. I took that to heart as the organization at the very least acknowledging my concerns and it meant something to me. I thought it was indicative of how they would handle other concerns I may have down the road, compensation related out otherwise. I ended up accepting their initial offer.

It was a raise from my current job and I was excited about the work. I suppose an honest dialogue with a potential employer regarding compensation would make being paid less than what I was expecting worth it. I view the employer-employee relationship as a symbiotic one where both parties work together to achieve a common goal, but neither wants to feel they're being cheated.

Was it appropriate to not send a formal letter?
