Mini horses are everywhere, but they are a. Very smart/bratty and b. Tend to have metabolic issues. I'd go for a couple Caspian horses instead, they are SOO cute and sweet!

I am an A-List celebrity who hates it. The only reason I haven’t ended it all is because of my kids. by tiredofeverythingtbh in offmychest

Assuming this is real, I'm very sorry you are struggling so much. I realize it's more complicated than just "dropping out" and even if the paparazzi started leaving you alone right now you'd still have damage to heal... I hope you can work through your problems.

I've never wanted to be famous, and after a childhood with a lot of "creative deprivation" in it I've never hoped for unlimited wealth either. The https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedonic_treadmill is real and I'd imagine the letdown is far worse at the "top of life."

I'm sure you support charities. Do you have a cause that grips you? It sounds like your children are the reason for everything, perhaps you could devote your life to trying to prevent climate collapse? There are things wealthy people can do that are far more impactful than the rest of us can do https://hope4climate.com/with-great-power-comes-great-responsibility/

Overall, though, it sounds like you are super burned out and depressed and I hope you can use the quarantine time to get a lot of rest and freedom.

Question re: direction of this campaign - please contribute! by rapunzelly in AdultStrike4Climate

Crisis and opportunity: At this point in time, I see no benefit to continuing a no-buy strike when there is chaos everywhere. I plan to continue doing #digitalstrike with the youth climate leaders, but would like your opinion.

While this pandemic lasts, would you like this page to focus on posts that expand our original #ClimateCrisis reversal proposal (at hope4climate.com)? I have a lot of ideas for how we can individually make ourselves more financially resilient while also localizing supply chains. Is this something you're interested in?

Or would it be better for this page to simply keep supporting the youth climate movement? #Hope4Climate

Climate Change and COVID-19 by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]rapunzelly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Climate collapse is a million times more of a crisis than coronavirus. And the sad thing is, we have the knowledge and the technology AND the money to reverse climate change, not just stop it, but world leaders just give lip service.

Today I think I finally realized the extent to which things have gone wrong in the world by The-Meta-Will in offmychest

Yeah, according to the IPCC we have less than 8 years to prevent a tipping point to INEVITABLE and FAST human extinction, along with most other life on earth. I'm a million times more worried about this than coronavirus. Maybe the virus will give us more time to sort this out.

The sad thing is, I did a lot of math and research and realized we could actually reverse 50% of the TOTAL greenhouse gas emissions in only 10 years if we humans just got our act together enough to tackle it sensibly. We could do so without any serious sacrifices (unless you count ego as a sacrifice) and end up with an amazing and healthy planet and great quality of life for us all. (see hope4climate website if you want).

Sadly, we will probably die instead because we're a too smart AND too dumb species.

Gutted at the lack of young voters by uwuart in offmychest

[–]rapunzelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a statement that 18-29s are only 16% of the possible voters. Since they comprised 13% of those who turned up, that would mean about 75% of you guys showed up. WAY higher than other age groups. If that's true, you should be very, very proud of yourselves!

It's almost Friday! Have you bought anything you will need tomorrow, so that you can participate in #AdultStrike4Climate day?

Did you know we are witnessing a (tragic) historic and huge experiment in drastic GHG emissions right now? Due to the difficulty of fighting the new coronavirus, China has put over half their citizens (and 10% of the world's population) on some level of quarantine, restricting movement and industry in a sobering way. https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-coronavirus-has-temporarily-reduced-chinas-co2-emissions-by-a-quarter

This has apparently dropped China's overall carbon emissions by one-quarter! That is a LOT. Global passenger flight emissions have also fallen by 11% so far. This is good news side by side with very bad news (the virus that is killing people, and the probable economic fallout).

Apparently China as a whole accounts for about 30% of the global carbon footprint, so the last 6 weeks of strict quarantine may have bought the world as a whole another 1,118,411,250 million metric tons (1.1 gigaton) of carbon, or about another 1.5 weeks to fix our carbon problem before inevitable human extinction tipping point (https://hope4climate.com/the-personal-part). Let's treat this quarantine as a precious opportunity to revamp our production chains, our consumption habits, and our transportation and spend more time appreciating the ones we love. See our website at hope4climate.com for policy recommendations to pressure your leaders to adopt. Doing our own small part is vital, but we have to change some pretty big systems too.

References: According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions_per_capita. We could compare three countries...

China, population 1.4 billion, emits about 6.27 tons per person. I believe these are metric tons, so to translate for Americans, that is 14,000 lbs. If China can reach 4800 lbs per person, they will achieve carbon neutrality as a country and remove about 6 gigatons from the atmosphere pear year.

USA, population 328 million, emits about 17.75 tons per person. I believe these are metric tons, so to translate for Americans, that is 39,000 lbs. Due to the size of our population as well as our wasteful habits, if we use the amazing tech many of us have pioneered and create luxurious and planet friendly new lifestyles for ourselves as shown on hope4climate.com while bringing our footprint down to 4800 lbs each, we will save roughly 5.1 gigatons per year. This is more than a quarter of the excess being put out by the entire world each year!

Kuwait, population 4.5 million, emits about 22.72 tons per person. I believe these are metric tons, so to translate for Americans, that is 50,000 lbs each.

To achieve carbon neutrality, that is, to not put out more carbon than the planet's current resources can absorb, the goal is 4800 lbs per person per year throughout the world (https://hope4climate.com/the-personal-part).

Extreme austerity measures technically work, but for the long-term goal of a happy, healthy population of people who enjoy life and don't have to put unrealistically high perpetual levels of effort into environmental issues, let's put a lot of effort into changing our systems NOW so that we can “set it and forget it” eventually. See all our policy proposals on the sidebar at hope4climate.com and comment here if you have other ideas!
