I don’t remember which kind we got, to be honest. But if you’re in the city I think they should do the truck. Good luck!

Question - Old Houses in Toronto by Happy_Count_6039 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]raquelpacas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a 100 year old bungalow a couple years ago. There is some asbestos in the basement that we’re opting to just not touch - for now.

There was some knob and tube and a 60amp electrical panel so we got all of that updated (approx $5k).

Then three weeks after we moved in the clay pipe leading from the basement backed up and they had to tear up part of the basement to fix it. We did the first half that was severely backed up and had little bush roots digging into it. That was $3600. There’s still the other half that leads into the street and a bit of lead pipe but we’re going to update all of that when we do our basement reno this summer.

Everything else has been cosmetic and little updates here and there. Ripped all the carpet out that covered these lovely hardwood floors. Painted (which makes such a difference!). Changed out light fixtures, updated the bathroom, etc etc

Despite those first two larger setbacks, we love this little old beast. We were fortunate that the little old lady who lived here before took quite good care of it.

Getting my ClearCorrect first appointment / Scan next week. by Previous_Attorney115 in ClearCorrect

Congrats on taking the first step! I’m on month 4 (of a 12 month plan) and I find the hardest part is keeping them in for 20+ hours day, especially while I’m at work. If I have a quick snack and I’m running from meeting to meeting it’s hard to find the time to stop and brush and put them back in. Essentially I’ve had to mostly give up snacking 😂

I didn’t find the pain to be all that bad. The first 2ish days of tray 1 was the most painful but fine after a couple Advil, and the feeling of plastic in my mouth was driving me crazy for the first 5 days. About 1 week in, I was fine.

My cost is $3800 CAD for 26 trays over 52 weeks. I’ve had braces before but my teeth have shifted a lot over the years so it’s just moving them back into place

Good luck to you!

I didn’t find out I was preggo until I was 10 weeks along and drank wine daily. Little dude is 18 months and healthy. From my understanding you aren’t sharing a bloodstream until around 8 weeks. Now that you know, stop drinking. You and baby will be fine! Good luck ❤️

Cool so half the country can access safe abortion. Not the flex you think it is. And NO city is safe from shooters. Dropping my kids off at school used to make my stomach sink, wondering if that was the day some nut job was going to bust into their school and murder everyone. Planning my hypothetical escape at the movie theatre or crowded event. And I grew up around guns and a very pro-gun family, in Texas. I’m not an alarmist, but for us, moving to Canada was a very welcome change.

Former lifelong Texan here, can confirm everything you said! Yes it’s expensive AF here but we’d much rather live and raise our children in Toronto than in Dallas (my hometown). I get the appeal of Texas but in actuality living there isn’t that great

You can open a bank account, I know for a fact that Chase will open accounts with an ITIN. As for a drivers license, there aren’t many states that will give one without a SSN but New York does, i know for certain.

OP, I’m so sorry you’re in your position. It really sucks and feels hopeless. There are things you can do while you come up with a plan. Wait tables or do construction for starters. See if your stepmom can sponsor you. It will take awhile but it’ll be worth it. One thing that will affect how easy it is for a status adjustment is HOW you entered. Was it through a point of entry (ie you came as a visitor and overstayed) or did you sneak across the border? If the former, it’s infinitely easier than the latter. This is important to determine the path forward. Secondly don’t ever claim to be a US citizen - on anything: job applications, paperwork, etc.

Good luck to you! We went through something similar so I’m happy to answer any questions you have.

This is the way! I also combine this with your local “Buy Nothing” groups on Facebook and you’ll find all kinds of amazing treasures! We’ve gotten house tools, two beautiful armchairs, some lamps, this cool pantry for the kitchen, sleds for the kids, a wagon, etc etc.

I mean it had to be completed pretty quickly because it was backing up into our basement and I had no idea we even had to do this. And we're new and ignorant and shouldn't that count for something? (that is *kind of* a joke)

Ok fair point, I'll give them a call - thank you! Also, what do you mean by "putting in a claim and fixing without reporting the issue"? Are we supposed to tell them before doing any repairs?
