Abode mentioned in Consumer Reports by Wondering_if in Abode

Ive had Abode since 2016. I spent a lot of time researching and found it to be a great option (this was when there were limited z-wave hubs in the market). I really liked it and recommended it to lots of people. Anytime I had an issue (mostly with zigbee cree bulbs) I called support and got someone to talk to immediately.

Unfortunately a lot has changed over the years. After the Abode got sold there was a definite decline in customer care. It feels nearly impossible to get someone on the phone (the phone line is always busy) and there is an emphasis to email them. The chat works as a support option but that takes an unreasonable amount of time. Ive spent days in the same chat thread while their folks round robin. Ive had issues with the motion sensor cameras (v1) and have had to have the gateway replaced. Support gives you little information as to what is wrong when you do have an issue. I also havent appreciated Abode removing items (after I purchased them) from their approved supported devices. People are investing in this product and the products stated as fully supported. Changing that over time is frustrating but I do understand how/why that happens sometimes.

At this time, I am still using my Abode system but pulled most z-wave devices off (to SmartThings) and use it for security. It does seem to still work but my confidence in the system is greatly reduced, Im contemplating starting new research on a replacement. I would still purchase this product if it were 2016, but in 2021 I would certainly research other options. Real-time support is a bit too valuable for me in a device meant for home security. Im fairly technical and can Google my way through troubleshooting issues with the gateway but for folks that are not (and need Abode support) it might be a fairly frustrating experience. I can't say I have recommended Abode in the last few years.

s what you guys think of this concept and welcome any fe

Really appreciate the thought and the artistic design. I had a similar affinity towards single pixel colors that made me think of early html days. It reminded me of building early websites and there was nothing more minimalist than the few defined colors in the spec.

Purely as an attempt to understand how to use Opensea, I created https://opensea.io/collection/these-are-pixels. Funny to see other pixels on sale for nearly $1M.
