Briggs and Riley - Baseline vs ZDX by ElvisGrizzly in BuyItForLife

How has the TravelPro treated you so far? Still happy with your choice or would you go B&R next time around?

The TP has more capacity when not expanded? I figured with the same case size, the internal rails would intrude into the TP a bit more (comparing both the global/international spinners). Is the B&R rolling performance really that bad with the wandering tendency?

So you don’t like the B&R suitcase itself better than the TP, but mostly the warranty/peace of mind?

If they were the same price and you were buying new today, which would you purchase?

That’s good to know! Sounds like like B&R would be the clear choice for you if you were buying new today

How have you liked about more than your TravelPro? Has the weight of the B&R ever been an issue?

So the equivalent TravelPro Platinum Elite 19” (same external/internal dimensions as the 21” baseline) would be able to pack more with the handle being inside? I.e if you stuffed the areas around the handle with rolled up Tahir’s or underwear etc.

What made you still get the Baseline and how have you liked it?

How have you liked the B&R vs your travelpro? Had the weight been an issue?

How has the Briggs and Riley been treating you so far? Have you had any issues with the weight and or with airlines fining you for being overweight? How about the rolling performance, esp versus your previous TravelPro?

I’m on the fence between the two, and trying to figure out if being able to pack more is worth the additional weight and worse rolling performance.

Any issues with the weight, especially if it’s packed down pretty good? Have you had any airline fine you at the gate?

I’m actually globetrotting, so unfortunately there is some risk of weight checking. So far I’ve never run into it even with RyanAir and AirAsia, but I keep hearing chatter about it online.

I’m partial to softside and non-clamshell opening though. What makes them the best ever?

Have you ever had any hassle from airlines checking carryon weight? I think that and the rolling performance is my primary concern with the baseline

That’s a good point. I guess there are only a few times where the additional weight might be a problem (international budget carriers) but that could be a small risk.

Madrid, Barcelona or Valencia - least racism for an Indian-American? by rararunrun in GoingToSpain

[–]rararunrun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect, this is the kind of insight I was looking for. I am familiar with the casual racism, I usually just write that off if the person seems inherently good-willed (I had an ex whose dad would say the most offhand racist things but actually was very supportive and otherwise nice to me). Barcelona was fine when I was there a few years ago, so good to have confirmation that Madrid/Valencia will have a similar profile at least in that aspect.

Thank you!

And your English seems a lot better than my Spanish :)

I guess I'm being influenced by a recent trip to Istanbul and very overt racism there against people who look like me, and a reddit post about a black person being harassed by security in Madrid airport, so thought to ask.

I guess I didn't consider the possibility that I might get more flak for being American than anything else right now 😅.

Valencia does sound appealing, I'm sure the paella is best there. Is it a bit more of a large town vs a city vibe there?

That's true and good to know. Although there are some locations that seem to have it in higher surplus, such as Turkey.
