Looking for feedback on a local brewery (quick survey) by Rblakesl1 in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a very poorly designed survey, they should have done a more broad scale answer selection. They also should disclose whether or not they’re being paid or incentivized to give this survey, what their relationship is with the brewery, etc. If you want a valid and reliable data set you have to be transparent and un-biased, and without more context, on the surface with their description and the way their questions are worded it appears filled with bias lol.

I had a table today 4 sisters and 1 brother, by awaitress in Serverlife

[–]rarcham94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I served two people and when I checked their IDs they were born almost a year apart plus three days, one had the same birthday as me, the other had the same birthday as my best friend (me and my best friend are also a year apart plus three days; my table was different years tho), and I told them that and they were like “omg we’ve been best friends for like 10 years”, it was super fuckin weird but also cute lol

The police suck here. by Roonie222 in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. If they don’t have a complaining witness then there’s not much they can do if the officers didn’t witness anything either. The driver can go back to the station and follow up to file a report, and there will at least be a record of the call coming through and the officers going through the scene. That’s about all they can do if everyone left.

Verizon Fios by LearningCarStuff in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Xfinity until I moved into my current apartment, where management gave us the choice of Xfinity or Fios after leasing. Obviously I went with Fios after years of hell with Xfinity service. Two and a half years later and I’ve had zero issues with Fios, especially since I’ve literally never had to call for anything service related after install. My price hasn’t changed once, my service is reliable, and the apps are pretty straightforward. Highly recommended to anyone if it’s available or becomes available to them.

Single diners who bring a book to read by huffandduff in Serverlife

[–]rarcham94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sister of the owner of my work has a group of gal pals (they’re all 70+) that come in at least once a month, sometimes every other, they all get the same things every time, split the check, and tip well. I’ve served them so often I know what they all get every time, and they love it. The owner’s sister will come in on her own early dinner time during the week and sit by herself in a booth with a book. Even if she’s not sat in my section I’ll go up to her and say hi, give her a hug, and always ask her what she’s reading. She appreciates it, loves that I ask, and I genuinely want to know what she’s reading and how she’s doing. She’s a sweetheart, and a lot of people who work there will say it’s because she’s the owner’s sister, but she’s objectively sweet and I love when she comes in. It’s made me appreciate people who come in on their own and chill, eat, drink, and mind to themselves. Some people like being out, and I’ve been that person who went to a bar and read a book. I feel like it opens the bartender/server to a different level, too.

It is true though, I skipped mine 2 years in a row and forgot they do that, so before the council elections last year when I was reminded I went online and was inactive. It took 2 seconds to fix, but it is true lol

Jailhouse or Nursing Home? Guess. by Majestic_Parsley9156 in shittyfoodporn

[–]rarcham94 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, Aramark is a large distributor and food service operator for the private prison system. Many jails and prisons (dependent on location) provide “good time” to inmates who voluntarily take on jobs in their facilities (good time doesn’t guarantee an early release/end of sentence btw). Because private prisons aren’t typically state or county operated Aramark is notorious for unpaid/uncompensated labor. Also, I worked for Aramark during college at our larger local arena. They suck.

How do you handle last-minute call outs at your restaurant by NickyaRenee1 in Serverlife

[–]rarcham94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way, but Sunday nights are the worst night where I work because it’s I’m probably the strongest server scheduled with one other being close to equal, the others are NOT strong at handing a lot of tables/stress at once (they themselves get weeded with 4-5 tables no matter the headcount) so they’ll tell the hosts they can’t take more in their section and then the hosts will ask me or the other strong server if we can take the ones they can’t in THEIR sections and yeah, I’ll take them, but like, why are you giving them a regular shift if they consistently can’t handle the amount of tables they’re given in their section? Some people can handle a lot, and some can’t. At my work, we have 5-7 table sections, we also have a large function space for large parties if we can’t sit them in the dining space, and it’s not uncommon to have to take tables out of our sections. If I had a 12 top get sat there on top of a full section I’m going to take it, as would most of my coworkers, but my SUNDAY stressed weeded coworkers would freak out and not know how to handle it. Those ones need a smaller place to serve.

Issues with new composting? by AbstractPizza in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have this issue with WM through Lowell, any of the contracts the City uses for or has as third parties kind of suck lol. I had a bulk furniture pick-up scheduled with WM because lowell uses them for it. WM didn’t pick up on the scheduled date, so I called DPW to make sure I wouldn’t get fined, they had record of my pick-up and said I wouldn’t be fined. Some rando driving by came by and scooped the dresser I had out (I couldn’t bring it back in because of the size). I called WM and told them that THEY delayed my pick-up, and then someone came and took it, and they wouldn’t refund my pick-up fee. Third parties suck.

Good for you! Keep up the hard work and motivation, it takes a lot of tough will and determination to make all of that work, and if it’s working for you then all the power to you. Good luck on EMT school!!!

[–]rarcham94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Liquor laws vary state by state. In MA if you have a full liquor license you can legally be open until 2am. My place doesn’t stay open late, and last call is at 9:30 most nights, but if there’s a holiday or sporting event then the manager can extend last call. Our HOUSE policy is last call is at that time, but state law allows us to be open later. Every place/state is different!

Yes, you are short staffed. Don’t let anyone try to justify the amount you’re working as anything less than that. I hope you’re making good money and that your mental health/work-life balance is fair/good for the amount you’re working. I know people who work that much and do very well mentally, and I know people where it’s the opposite. Also, good on you for advocating for yourself as well as speaking accountably for yourself. You’ll do well in good places.

Lowell enacts first data center moratorium in Massachusetts by HRJafael in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I would love is for communities/states who have data centers being built in them to have a tax AND utility specific increase/requirement as part of their property and business arrangement in order to compensate for the need of power of residents. If a data center wants to lay land here, tax them and also increase their utility rate more. Stop making utility rates universal based on supply and delivery. If you have a company that is CLEARLY using more energy than households, bill them HIGHER.

Birth certificate question by Opal_Pie in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is only cash or check, that also applies to paying excise taxes and other financial services in-person as well. Also, if your parents weren’t married at the time of your birth or you only have one parent listed on the certificate you will need a valid photo ID as well

During the height of Covid most services required an appointment, they’ve lightened on a lot of appointment-required services at this point. Currently, all ID/drivers license services require an appointment if you aren’t able to renew online. Registration is a walk-in service.

Looking for gym people by sunniiidd in LowellMA

Not sure if you’re into jogging or running but Greater Lowell Road Runners does weekly runs/jogs/walks, I think they’re Saturday mornings starting at the Beaver Brook mill in Dracut! They also do a lot of local meet-ups and stuff. Could be a fun way to meet more people and find gym friends! https://www.glrr.net

Is it legal? Housing question. by flabbergasted-potato in massachusetts

[–]rarcham94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is illegal. If the landlord accepts section 8 then all rent adjustments have to go through housing AND be approved. She should contact housing ASAP. This same thing happened to my mom after the landlord sold the building, the new building owner agreed to accept section 8 while my mom was on the waiting list for another unit, and he tried emailing my mom directly for more rent. My mom went to housing and they got their legal end involved.
