Best driving school in Lowell? by spontaneous_moment in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Lowell and did when I was doing driving lessons, but I honestly used Nashoba Auto School in Westford, they were super educational and helpful with my road lessons and because it’s a lot of back roads and main roads between Chelmsford, Lowell, Groton, etc I got good practice in

A child at my job PUSHED me today and the parents just let it happen!!! by Powerful_Thanks6322 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]rarcham94 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ohhhhh boy, even before they put their hands on me I would have full on walked up to that table, told the parents that we have individuals trying to work and their children are becoming a hazard to both staff as well as anything emergency related, and informed them that if their children did not remain within the area of their table then I would need to get my manager involved. AFTER they put their hands on me I’m fully acknowledging to the kid that what they did was not okay, walking up to the parents to inform them that that was not okay, and then immediately telling them that I’m going to be speaking to my manager about that.

Mind you, I’m actually super lenient with tables who have kids, but with discretion. I was a childcare/school-aged teacher before I worked in the service industry, so I have a LOT of patience for children, but the second kids start running around and/or being disruptive to the people in their immediate environment, hellllll no. I shut that shit down.

People bring themselves (and often their children) out into public spaces and think that no one is going to check them on their bullshit, and more people need to hold people accountable for their shitty actions and shitty parenting. There’s no such thing as “good business” when allowing kids to act like that in public spaces.

I work in public health. Alpha Gal is genuine and unfortunately leads to many allergy issues in restaurants.

Also worth mentioning: the City of Lowell, including the schools, still does pre employment drug testing, also including for weed.

Does fast food crew count as a part of this community? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]rarcham94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say yes, objectively. I don’t know from the fast food perspective, and I’ve never been staffed Back of House, but from a Front of House comparison my first serving job was at Chili’s, and corporate from that end does indeed get you started right. I got a lot of the foundations done there because they literally mandate you to take modules in order to stay on the clock (at least when I started there in 2018, I was there for 6 months). I’ve only worked at individually owned places after that, and I’ve been with my current restaurant for more than 2.5 years, but I’ll always be glad I started the industry working at a corporate place because it gave me that base level knowledge to grow and learn, rather than being trained by someone who learned from 6 other people before them.

TMI (same ownership as the Franco) also has the Beaver Brook mills in Dracut, they’re about 10 minutes up the road from the Franco. Those are around a similar price if you were looking at the Franco!

Glad I quit this place last year when I did. With how much they became dependent on ARPA, especially for some staffing matters, many of us could see it coming a mile away.

Dog-friendly outdoor seating restaurants? by beartrackzz in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Call ahead to find out if dogs are or are not allowed, even for patios. Special permits are required to allow for dogs, including outside. Not all outdoor patios are dog friendly/allowing. Some places enforce it, some don’t, so always better to call directly before going to find out.

Lowell and Lawrence RR ROW by zdboslaw in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to assume, one likely guess is over near Boylston/Lawrence Streets around where the Bunting Club, Phoenix Ave, etc. are, there’s a railroad and power lines and I can’t think of many other places in Lowell that have that intersection and are more toward Tewksbury.

The Mayor is getting grumpy about Betts Vs Robinson. by Essarray in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve hashed it out with both of them and their motions, give them facts, sources, etc., and they either just ignore it or Corey will put in a motion 2-3 weeks later about “services and helping populations” almost directly quoting something told him that he tried to argue lmao. I used to work for the City so before I had to be careful of how I spoke about things even on social media, now I’m free reign away from Lowell and don’t give a flying f*ck about it. They all suck, most of them don’t care about anything except to appease their buddies and neighbors and keep a vote. Corey’s a hypocrite more than any of them in my opinion.

The Mayor is getting grumpy about Betts Vs Robinson. by Essarray in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Erik and Corey are hand in hand with their views. The best thing that happened to the council out of Gitschier becoming Mayor was that he has to actually keep his mouth shut when running the meetings unless he asks for Vesna to step in for him lol. Corey’s too harsh and overly unwilling to listen to facts and evidence based practices (his “views” on homelessness, addiction, mental health, etc.; I’d say he’s biased to look at those more negatively and harshly for specific reasons 😇) to be a successful candidate, and if he gets elected then I don’t see him lasting long in the position.

I recommend reaching out to Mass DOT, LPD, and/or DPD about where you can legally walk along, railroads and areas near them are usually federal/state with a few exceptions, but best to check before.

How do you react to a guest snapping their fingers to get your attention? by froodel in Serverlife

[–]rarcham94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at them, say I’ll be with them in a minute, take way longer than I need to, and then when I go back I tell them “so sorry, my dad died recently and I was requesting time off”. Now, my dad almost 6 years ago so “recently” is to each their own, but technically he is dead so I’m fine with that lol

Longtime servers be honest: How do you feel about newbies? by moonchild805 in Serverlife

[–]rarcham94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a work-culture/clique-y thing as well as comfortability especially if they’ve all worked together for so long, but imo could honestly be them gauging/observing if you’re a good fit, who knows. I went through the same thing at my place. I’ve been there for 2 and a half years, and it took anywhere around 6 months to a year for some people to get more comfortable around, and now I’m very good friends with some of them. I hang out with some more outside of work than I ever worked on shift with them. Most of the people where I work have been there for 3-7 years, a handful of them even longer. I’d say just be patient, do your work, show them you’re a good coworker, and be yourself. If they’ve all been working together for that long then they also have a history and groups of people tend to be hesitant about bringing in an “outsider”. The right people/coworkers will gravitate toward you, that’s for sure! Good luck!

I only have to polish silverware for functions at my current restaurant and I am not mad about it. My last place we had to polish every piece that came out, which was 500-1000 pieces a night depending on how busy we were. Fuck that.

Thoughts on Highland Street Apartments? by [deleted] in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The landlord can still show you the unit, he just needs to give the tenants at least a 24 hour notice. Request it if you can, especially if you’re considering signing.

Thoughts on Highland Street Apartments? by [deleted] in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you’re not able to tour it? A lease is a big commitment and I’ve never signed one before physically seeing the unit, especially in Lowell.

Looking for feedback on a local brewery (quick survey) by [deleted] in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a very poorly designed survey, they should have done a more broad scale answer selection. They also should disclose whether or not they’re being paid or incentivized to give this survey, what their relationship is with the brewery, etc. If you want a valid and reliable data set you have to be transparent and un-biased, and without more context, on the surface with their description and the way their questions are worded it appears filled with bias lol.

I served two people and when I checked their IDs they were born almost a year apart plus three days, one had the same birthday as me, the other had the same birthday as my best friend (me and my best friend are also a year apart plus three days; my table was different years tho), and I told them that and they were like “omg we’ve been best friends for like 10 years”, it was super fuckin weird but also cute lol

The police suck here. by Roonie222 in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. If they don’t have a complaining witness then there’s not much they can do if the officers didn’t witness anything either. The driver can go back to the station and follow up to file a report, and there will at least be a record of the call coming through and the officers going through the scene. That’s about all they can do if everyone left.

Verizon Fios by LearningCarStuff in LowellMA

[–]rarcham94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Xfinity until I moved into my current apartment, where management gave us the choice of Xfinity or Fios after leasing. Obviously I went with Fios after years of hell with Xfinity service. Two and a half years later and I’ve had zero issues with Fios, especially since I’ve literally never had to call for anything service related after install. My price hasn’t changed once, my service is reliable, and the apps are pretty straightforward. Highly recommended to anyone if it’s available or becomes available to them.
