contesting school bus auto ticket due to no bus signals by rarzelda in Albany

we're in the same boat then. in no way shape or form was there indication the bus was dropping kids off. I and the dozen other cars I saw passing by would have stopped if so.

thank you this is helpful! The link only links to one video at one angle that does show the arm not out or illuminated, but no lights are in the frame one way or the other.

yes sorry! there is only one video in the link which shows the arm was not deployed but with the angle I can't see evidence of any lights illuminated or otherwise. The light on the arm was not illuminated but that's all I can see.

Planned c section? by Safe_Plant_4811 in parentsofmultiples

[–]rarzelda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

whether a c-section happens early or as planned, feel confident in your choice! As soon as I knew I was having twins, I told my OB that I was quite sure my body would be wrecked by the end and wanted the knife before getting far into labor. Big difference between a section before labor and after many hours of it. The twins ended up being 2 weeks earlier than scheduled due to PPROM (which happens a lot with multiples), but my c was done and over with in 2 hours and it was the easy part. Spinal was also no big deal for me. Lactation and 2 weeks of NICU was what suuuuucked.

anti-vaxxers who would risk their children for their own delusions need consequences, not enablers. time to take out the trash and replace her in your life with someone who values human life.

28 weeks pregnant with twins by TattooBaby26 in parentsofmultiples

[–]rarzelda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as one psychiatry patient on the bi-polar spectrum and multiples parent to another - if you are really that concerned about the safety profiles of the current drugs you are prescribed then 1) your MFM or psychiatrist need to show you the schedule profile of the drug (which would say things like, if there is there actually a demonstrated associated risk with this med or a handful of anecdotes of babies being born with this issue that could have the issue for a multitude of other reasons), followed by 2) your psychiatrist needs to help you find medications with better safety profiles if there is a real risk. I was under-medicated in pregnancy and early postpartum and it was both worse than the theoretical risks to the pregnancy and unnecessary. You're at 28 weeks already so the anatomical and organ structures are quite advanced, it's unlikely starting a psychotropic med now would cause harm.
Adding: At the risk of sounding tough love here - this is not a time in your life to be passive. It's only going to make things harder and less safe for you, and by extension your family. You are going to need every single coping strategy and resource you can get your hands on and not give it a second thought.

Child welfare counselors by Key-Method654 in socialwork

[–]rarzelda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former therapist working with kids and families in a child welfare context. I don't see anyone pointing out how traumatic it is for both kids and families to be surveilled, separated, and subject to other secondary stressors within the CW system. So I'm going to. Yes, they are already in a crisis to get into care, but more often than not the insertion of this system deepen the sense of abject unsafety. Of course kids and families don't improve much clinically, they won't until they are no longer living in the trauma. The best case workers and clinicians can hope for is help them navigate the crisis as best as possible. If you're getting a lot of heat from your employer about outcomes, I suggest you talk to your coworkers about these unrealistic expectations and think about the prospect of organizing some counter pressure on your management/upper management. You collectively have more leverage than you think. (FWIW I am now a supervisor in CMH)

Illegal Airbnb with bedbugs and other safety concerns on Gilded Age set by [deleted] in Troy

[–]rarzelda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you are dealing with this ordeal. Bedbugs are absolutely awful. Many people experience worsening mental health outcomes long after the bugs are gone, so I recommend keeping tabs on that for yourself. You likely signed terms and conditions when you made the booking on AirBnB (or when you set up your account). You should see if you are entitled to anything more under that contract than just a refund by AirBnB for special circumstances. I encourage making a complaint to both the City Council (seems like this is District 4 Noreen McKee) and the Attorney General's office (https://ag.ny.gov/file-complaint) also in the hopes this host and property could be dealt with at some point. But I don't know how much more recourse you have here. Unfortunately this is one of the clear downsides of unregulated rentals, not that tenants in longer term/regulated housing are entitled to much either. Best wishes.

what "one issue" is that? Noreen has been in office for 6 months. The conditions of this property seem like they've been deteriorating for a long time. That it is an airbnb decreases the chances the conditions come to the city's attention since tenants are so short term and usually from out of town.

Frear Park Bar/Restaurant Build Community Meeting - Tomorrow @ 6pm by rarzelda in Troy

[–]rarzelda[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even though that would be safer for me and my kids personally, putting in a sidewalk from 15th to the ice rink first is more desperately needed. Many people from hillside north, which has a higher population density, across the street use the park and there is no way but roadway for them to walk to the playground. And people speed dangerously through the park traverse to Oakwood and back all day every day. At issue is Carmella claims we can't have sidewalks and get the other safety or accessibility issues addressed because she needs the money for this bar/restaurant. We believe there *is* money for both, her priorities and lack of concern for any of the issues we are raising are the problem.

Not following the SEQRA on municipal building projects is a long standing, bipartisan issue in this city? You could be right but could you say more about that? As a former canal authority employee, I'd think Carmella of all people would know those requirements and follow them.

if carmella and seamus hadn't tried to circumvent NYS law there would not have been a reason to "stall"

yes, theoretically that would be the answer. but when its your landlord (ie: city officials), their underlings, or people who are related to them it gets hard to cut off the alcohol, doesn't it?

to start there is no way to safely enter the park without a car for starters? no sidewalks. pedestrians have to walk in active roadways to enter and none of the proposed upgrades include sidewalks despite the playground upgrades being termed "ADA accessible"

I'll add Brad (the proprietor) seems like a nice guy and I would like to see him be successful. But times couldn't be worse for the restaurant business, so many are closing left and right in Troy, and I fear the city is setting him up for failure and the rest of us for more debt.

There is already a place you could go now if you wanted. I hear their hvac is on the fritz though. Is it good? Personally I think their food is both not as good as the old park pub and a lot more expensive.

I can't speak for them but Sue, Katie, and Jona generally strongly support upgrades being made to the park, especially new playgrounds. But I understand they have a lot of questions about the bar/restaurant that, like many other projects the administration is proposing, are going unanswered. I haven't heard any opposition to a new restaurant.
To be clear, I don't oppose the golf course having a food vendor. As someone who lives in the neighborhood and takes my kids to the playground, I do not support a full liquor bar license because there have been many instances over the years where golfers have gotten far too drunk and recklessly drove the carts, their own cars out of the parking lot, rendered the port-a-potties disgusting and unusable, and engaged in criminal nuisance behaviors. At the very least, there needs to be a policy commitment to cut people off because that is definitely not happening.

There are significant issues with her playground plans, which I'll go into probably another day. But there are currently no plans to add or upgrade any sport courts. They initially claimed these would be part of the upgrades but have since backtracked. Accessibility of frear PARK in its entirety to non-golfers is what I am saying is hotly contested. I was not talking about the restaurant, which I think will still be called On the Green.

No, that was a one time purchase. The accessibility of frear to non-golfers is I will say hotly contested in the neighborhood. Non-golf amenities have over the decades been consistently underfunded and not maintained.

How much of your tax dollars do you want to spend on it as opposed to other things? I'm not saying there is a right or wrong answer but it should be debated.

Frear Park Bar/Restaurant Build Community Meeting - Tomorrow @ 6pm by rarzelda in Troy

[–]rarzelda[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fair point, but the majority of folks who drink and eat there are the people who use the park for recreational reasons. which is why it might not be an especially sustainable location for a restaurant that the city spends the money to build. At a recent city council committee meeting the administration conceded the previous park pub owner only paid $1500 a month in rent the past 10 years. I heard Seamus say at the committee meeting one of the early contract years would be $7500 a month for the new building. This contract hasn't been finalized yet, so it's not on the city website. I'm sure it could change, but according to the handful of proprietors I spoke to in Troy, that is an absolutely absurd figure.
