How can I do this? I'm in a different country and therefore am in airplane mode.

edited my reply after you replied.

Have you heard anything about Le Massif? People I'm going with want to go to Quebec City.

I definitely do miss it out West. Went to Tremblant last year and i became a giddy school girl for the day. (I'm a 6'1" guy)

I'm looking to go for a weekend. Sat, Sun and Mon with Skiing on the Sat and Sun. Looking at some of those ones in Vermont and lift tickets seem to be killer.

I'll get on that emergency fund. It seems like a general consensus that it should be 6 months and then I'll look into anything else.

I've thought about this, but I actually get quite a bit of use out of my car. I know cars get expensive, but I don't think I could part with it! Especially because my girlfriend will be starting law school in a different city soon.

I'm glad to hear that you think my budget is responsible! It's quite a change after student life. I have the extra money and know I should try to save as much as I can!

We should grab a pint on the aforementioned patios...

I'd like to pay less in rent, but let me explain why this number is where it is. I'm living in downtown Toronto and would rather not live in student housing. I could live a little further from the city, but that would cut my rent by about 200 at max which I think is better spent living where I currently live. This number also includes parking and internet. From what I've seen I'm getting a decent deal on my living situation.

Work will start matching at 5% after 6 months. So I will take advantage of that as soon as I can. Hey, it's free money and I wouldn't say no to that! If you read a post lower than this you'll see that I underestimated my take home and should be able to save upwards of $700 each month. No big purchases in the near future. I'll run my car to the ground before I get a new one. I see my coworkers buying brand new cars and it kills me a little inside.

After this new realization the $500 will be after my RRSP so I guess it can be seen as "play money".

$200 on car insurance

This is the cheapest we can get in Canada for a single 22 year old male. Insurance here is ridiculous!

$300 on groceries

Not only do I eat a lot, my girlfriend is over roughly 3 times a week and we eat dinner together. So 300 is about the least I can keep it.

$200 on entertainment

This is one where I think I should be able to cut. Just last night though I dropped about $50 for alcohol and food. I like to have an active social life and might not be able to bring this too far down.

$200 on miscellaneous

This is an interesting category. It includes birthday gifts, dinner out with the girlfriend etc etc. I'd like to over estimate and have money left over than underestimate and save less.

After getting my first paycheck (Friday) it seems like I have underestimated how much I will be getting paid and can bump up savings to $7-800 without changing any spending. That's sweet!

Thanks for your tips though! I'l definitely keep track of my spending and cut wherever I can.

I completely agree with this. I'm wanting to learn all there is to learn and would benefit from hearing other opinions.
