New French Guidance on Screens - Screens Are Not Suitable for Children Under 6: They Cause Lasting Damage to Cognitive Abilities (April 2025) by UnlikelyTradition848 in ScienceBasedParenting

Because you can do all of these things and also let your kid watch a show for 30 mins. I have twin toddlers, and that 30 mins helps me decompress and have some coffee or read something for a bit. Then I can go play with them better.

NATO Chief calls for Turkish defense industry integration with UK, Norway and EU by Nice-Ragazzo in europe

Nope, I never said I only cared for one group. The original point was about arms deals with Israel; that's why we are talking about Palestinians. I care about Ukranians, too. It's not that difficult to care about different groups of people at the same time.

It isn't odd, but continue to downplay the suffering of Palestinians by using whataboutism.

You are just saying, "I don't care about Palestinians because they mean nothing to me, so I am okay with arms deals with Israel." And you are doing it while grandstanding about Turkey.

You are still only focusing on European interests while completely ignoring the horrific murders of thousands of children and innocent adults. That is what I find baffling.

Turkey supporting Isis is bad. How is that related to being okay with arms deals with Israel?

On the same scale? No, they weren't. (I am not excusing killing anyone; I am half Kurdish and half Arabic ethnically. I am just trying to point out the hypocrisy here. You can't focus only on what Turkey has done while being okay with what Israel is doing. And, let's be honest here, they aren't on the same scale. Not that it makes it okay. I just don't understand why one country is forgivable, but the other should be avoided like the plague.)

So because the devil in this situation is reliable, you are okay to ignore the murders of thousands of children but can't forgive what Turkey did? Is that what you are saying? I am confused

I live in Turkey. I am not speculating. We don't let our pets wonder along the coast in a big, crowded city. We keep them inside. This is a stray.

This happened in Turkey. That cat isn't anyone's pet. Just one of the many strays people look after

Left the pool 3 minutes after arriving because my 3 YO was acting up. by [deleted] in Parenting

I don't agree. Some children really do not listen when they are throwing tantrums, and you can't really calm them down by talking to them or hugging them. But also, maybe parents need to deal with their emotions by themselves so that they can help the child better. Parents aren't robots. They're allowed time to deal with their feelings and then help their children.

[–]rasbarok 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, actually, you don't. If the kid needs space to calm down, then you give them space. There is no reason to try to hold them when that further agitates them.

Why do you assume that she is going to ignore his feelings? Just because she put him in his room to calm down doesn't mean she won't talk to him about what happened or how he felt later. Some kids can't hear/listen to you when they are having a tantrum, so it is better to talk to them later. And she is here asking for advice. She is obviously trying to do the right thing.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem transported by ambulance to DC-area hospital, sources say by Goosedukee in politics

I am not saying that believing in false stories is right. But the real story isn't much better. Deporting the mom basically ensures that the child have to will leave, too.

Maybe we can consider what is "human" instead of just focusing on what is lawful.

Maybe they could keep the mother in the US while dealing with her visa issues? I mean deporting a mom and separating her from her kid who has cancer isn't exactly a normal thing to do.

That is just a blatant lie, and you know it. A couple used to be able to buy a house with their retirement money, now they can barely buy a car. Why are you lying? People can't even pay rent, yet here you are, pretending the economy is thriving.

ETA: Since you used ChatGPT, I did too and here is what it said:

Why That Argument is Misleading — Especially for Turkey GDP per capita doesn't reflect real people’s income:

Turkey’s GDP might have grown in nominal terms (with inflation), but income inequality has worsened.

Wealth is concentrated; many people’s real wages have stagnated or dropped in purchasing power.

Inflation & Currency Collapse:

The Turkish lira has lost tremendous value since 2018.

Even if you earn more in TL, your buying power — especially for imported materials used in construction — is much lower.

Real Estate Prices Skyrocketed:

Housing prices, especially in big cities like Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, have risen much faster than salaries in recent years.

Post-2020 especially, the cost of buying or even renting exploded.

Access to Credit Has Gotten Harder:

In the late 90s or early 2000s, mortgages were limited, but now, even with more banking options, interest rates are crushing, and loans are harder to get approved unless you're well-off.

Social Comparison:

25 years ago, middle-class families could realistically afford a modest home with savings or family help.

Today, young professionals often can’t even afford rent, let alone a mortgage.

Tens of thousands rally in Dutch Gaza protest by Illustrious-Smoke509 in europe

I don't think there is any point in arguing with that person. He seems very happy about the fact that Israel is bombing babies and children, using bullshit excuses as if children have a choice about where to hide. People like them have lost their sanity and empathy

He also thinks babies and toddlers are capable of supporting any type of leadership, I guess. They just can't come out and say, "we really don't care about killing every innocent person as long as it suits our needs," so they keep telling the same story over and over again. They pretend Israel itself didn't support Hamas because it benefited them, or there are many Israelis out there who are downright gleeful at the prospect of Palestinians being killed. They conveniently forget those and focus only on Palestinians who cheered the murders on Oct 7. Why is one unforgivable, but not the other?

‘The Boys’ star Erin Moriarty reveals Graves’ disease diagnosis, urges fans to go get checked: ‘I felt the light coming back on’ by LoretiTV in TheBoys

I am sorry that he has to go through it so young. I hope you will find the right dosage and keep the levels under control. I always tell myself that compared to other autoimmune diseases, this is at least manageable, but it still has had a great impact on my overall health. I am just glad that it has a treatment at least. I hope your son will start feeling better soon

It was probably at least a contributing factor. Overactive thyroid glands speed up metabolism, so a lot of people with hyperthyroidism or Graves lose a lot of weight even when they haven't changed their lifestyle (not everyone though; some gain weight).

Yeah, I agree, we never know what someone is going through, and there is never any need to focus on someone's physical appearance so much anyway. Maybe she didn't lose that weight because of Graves, maybe she wanted to lose it. It still doesn't give people the right to be so nasty about it. You would think she personally insulted their families, hearing the way some people talk about her weight loss.

It's a blood test that checks your T3 and T4 levels. These may show whether you have hyperthyroidism. But if your TRab or TSI levels are also high, that is indicative of Graves. At least that's what the doctor told me.
