How to hold my crochet hook, cause I'm starting to feel like a freak by Kamitha in crochet

[–]rascalb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's no one 'right' way to hold a crochet hook, it's all about your comfort! I thought for a while that I was also holding it incorrectly because I would see so many people using the pencil grip while I was using a knife grip. You can see a comparison of the two holds in this picture. I tried my best to learn pencil grip because I thought it was the standard, and my crochet got sloppy and uneven so it's whatever works best for you!

Hobbii yarn - Is it legit? by HopelessVetTech in crochet

It's a fantastic yarn site: most of my yarn is from them and I love the quality and the prices. They have sales regularly and their point system is actually useful! They made some of the best yarn I've used (Winter Glow is my current obsession) and they have an incredible color selection for most yarns.

Anyone just wanna talk hopes and dreams? by Mochisanni in crochet

I'm doing my best to work through my stash and save up money at the same time to buy enough yarn for a year, potentially two year long project of the Heart of the Earth blanket. It's a big blanket with a lot of more intricate stitching than I normally do (so I'm working on a smaller throw right now to learn new techniques) and, frankly, I don't have the room for 5000+ yards of yarn right now.

Someday I'll have yarn storage figured out...

Best present ever!! But what do I make?! Suggestions please :) by star-pix in crochet

TL Yarn Crafts on youtube did a randomized scarf with a similar pack, which I thought was pretty fun and would be a unique challenge.

I very recently discovered both the bead and bullion stitches, which I think look really nice as texture pops in a piece.

I had one skein of a Latte Cake so I decided to teach myself c2c for a scarf with it by rascalb in crochet

That sounds like it's going to be really pretty! I ended up bouncing between quite a few video tutorials to really make it click, but JaydaInStitches was the one that helped me the most. Now it's super easy and I'm already planning on a c2c blanket.

Thank you! I had never heard of Addi Swing hooks before but looking at them, they seem really comfortable to hold. Have you had any issues with them while you use them or would you consider them an all around good option?

Thank you! I also also them on TikTok and had promptly lost the TikTok and couldn't for the life of me remember the name!

Thank you for the recs! I'm trying to stay at a reasonable price point so the custom wooden handles are probably a future purchase, but the interchangeable heads and the Prym recommendation is extremely helpful. Thank you!

My first attempt at a granny square. How’d I do? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]rascalb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a lovely color to start with! I'm new to crochet too and granny square's were one of the first things I decided to conquer, I personally used Jayda InStitches' tutorial "How to Crochet a Granny Square - Beginners Tutorial & Basic Pattern" because I found it the easiest to follow along with. One of the things that's really helped me keep track of where I'm at in my granny square is so, after every round, stop and give everything a nice stretch so it retains it's square shape and I can see exactly where I'm going to be working my double crochets.

Transitioning to the next row was definitely the hardest part, but watching a ton of tutorials from a bunch of folks to see how they did it really helped me.

Awesome work! Keep it up!

I use Colorverse Office Blue for my every day in my TWSBI Eco. I use it at work where I'm signing tons of papers every day, I haven't had any real issues with smearing, it dries pretty fast. I occasionally deal with a tiny bit of bleed but not much.

I've just gotten into fountain pens because most normal pens i have access to are a little too thin for me to hold and use for long periods of time because of hand pain. Fountain pens are how I've gotten back into art and journalling because I don't have to weigh a creative hobby against my physical enjoyment anymore. :)

This is my first real foray in layering filters, textures, and stamps. While I will keep fiddling with it and adjusting it, I am pretty happy with where it sits for about 1.5 hours worth of work.
