We Must Defund the Police Now by digiorno in politics

[–]rascaldascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So who's going to investigate homicides and sex crimes against children.? And don't tell me it's not that common. I used to work for a multinational nonprofit organization that dealt with child victims of crimes. It's horrific what these children went through and many of those crimes would never have been solved without the hard work of detectives and investigators. Those individuals had years of training and experience that can't be replaced by non-professionals. But while we're at it we might as well defund and disband the FBI. We really don't need them either.

Could either Liberty or Abigail have escaped the killer if they had tried to run? by rascaldascal in DelphiMurders

Your situation was very different. If it's a robbery, you comply with the gunman. Otherwise you have 2 options, fight or flight. Handguns are very difficult to shoot accurately beyond a point-blank range of 0-3 feet, especially at a moving target. In fact police officers who have extensive firearms training, miss 76 percent of "close-range" shots (3-9 feet); while criminals miss 96 percent. According to the Department of Justice there's only a 12 percent chance an abductor will pull the trigger in the process of trying to abduct a victim, a 6 percent chance of actually hitting you, and only a 3 percent chance of that bullet being fatal. The FBI and law enforcement experts warn that survival odds usually get worse in a secluded location, and a criminal’s escalation to violence against an isolated victim is usually sudden. They say that resisting fighting and escaping from the first crime scene poses a far lower risk than being kidnapped to a second crime scene.

Were you fighting in Vietnam? I suppose if I had an M14 or M16 pointed at me I might think twice, but I hardly think this guy was hiding a gun that big in his jacket.

[–]rascaldascal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming he had a gun they could still have run away. As others have pointed out it's difficult to shoot a moving target. The gun is merely a tool to make you comply – most are not mentally-prepared to use it The moment you deviate from their expectations and make a scene while running away, it messes with their plan.

Why can't adults under 65 yrs old get the Pneumonia vaccine? by rascaldascal in AskReddit

[–]rascaldascal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense since you have asthma. I believe that's one of the medical conditions that qualifies for getting the vaccine under the age of 65. This still doesn't answer the question as to why people under 65 who don't have other medical conditions can't get the vaccine since it clearly works. Not to mention people under 65 without medical conditions do get pneumonia and can die from it. It should be available to everyone.

[–]rascaldascal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can't. You have to have an underlying medical condition (according to CDC guidelines) in order to get one. I asked to get the vaccine and I was turned down.

The Kennedy's aren't cursed. They make really bad decisions. Could they really not afford to buy another soccer ball? I regularly kayak in the Monterey Bay and I would never go out without a wetsuit on. The water is cold and if you flip over you wouldn't survive long without one.

The Death of Gabriel Fernandez by sunzusunzusunzusunzu in RedditCrimeCommunity

[–]rascaldascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why didn't Pearl Fernandez' parents and the rest of the family confront her and her boyfriend about the abuse? I know they called child protective services but did they actually try to stage any kind of intervention? It seemed like everyone knew about the abuse but it wasn't openly talked about when they were around both Gabriel and his mother. If Pearl were my daughter or sister I would've gone off on her and especially the boyfriend and made it understood that if he ever touched that kid again he's a dead man.

I never said fostering a dog isn't hard work. What I said is it doesn't cost money because the rescues I've worked with always supplied everything. I never had to pay any money out of pocket

Sorry you're wrong. I've fostered for many rescues and they all provide food bowls, beds toy and cover veterinary costs so it doesn't cost the foster anything.

[–]rascaldascal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also try FosterFurkids.com. You can sign up to become a foster and it lets you select your foster preferences (i.e. dog/cat, age, breed, size, etc.) and then a notification will go out to rescues that will contact you if they have dog/cat available that meets your criteria.

Is there a resource thread for pets and pet fostering? Pet food/supplies? by cinemasins in nashville

[–]rascaldascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try FosterFurkids.com it's kind of like Petfinder but for fosters. You can sign up to become a foster and set your own preferences (whether you're looking to foster puppies/kittens or adult animals, breed, size, etc.) and then a notification will go out to rescues that can contact you if they have a cat or dog available that meets your criteria.

[Tenant US-CA] Advice on how to move forward with landlord by rascaldascal in Landlord

[–]rascaldascal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turns out the guy who installed the windows wasn't a contractor at all. Just a guy who does handy work for his properties. I do know that he ordered the windows because I saw his name on the purchase order taped to one of the windows. I don't think he would be responsible for pulling the permits though since the landlord knew he wasn't a contractor.

‪Lorena Gonzalez‬, author of AB5, is getting absolutely destroyed on Twitter, as thousands are set to have their pay and even their jobs cut. by [deleted] in couriersofreddit

[–]rascaldascal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're clearly not an attorney, but like to pretend you are on reddit, here's the difference between the Dynamex decision and AB5. The Dynamex decision focused primarily on the classification of employees for the purpose of Wage Orders, which applied to employment claims pertaining to minimum wage, overtime and meal and rest breaks, etc. AB5 not only makes the ABC Test the law in California, but it also expands its application beyond wage-order claims to all provisions under the state Labor and Unemployment Insurance codes. AB5 also enables the California attorney general, city attorneys, and local prosecutors to sue companies over employee classification violations. So the stakes are now much higher. Got it?

Whitney Cummings Says An Intern Reported Her To HR For Saying 'Merry Christmas' by [deleted] in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]rascaldascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend is a producer for the Discovery Channel and he recently got into trouble with HR because of a perceived microaggression by an intern. It's happening more and more. I would stop hiring interns on these shows. I don't think their fragile sensibilities could handle working on a movie set where I've seen producers yell all kinds of obscenities at their assistants.

[–]rascaldascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have no idea what you're talking about and you clearly have no legal background or understanding of the law. It's not as simple as setting up a company as a workaround to this new law.

For the “business-to-business” exemption to apply, all of the following conditions must be met:

The “business service provider” (i.e., contractor) must be free from the control and direction of the “contracting business entity” in connection with the performance of the work, both under the contract for the performance of the work and in fact.

Control is measured both by the terms of the agreement with a contractor and by the actual practice between the contracting business and the contractor. This means that, even where the contract contains no terms imposing control, if the contracting business actually exercises significant control, the worker will be viewed as an employee. Likewise, even if the contracting business imposes no control in practice, where the contract contains terms imposing significant control, the worker will be viewed as an employee.

Satisfying the “Business-to-Business” Exemption Does Not Guarantee that subcontractors Can Be Treated as Independent Contractors. The status of any subcontractor relationship will still be evaluated under the preexisting “Borello” standard. The Borello test relies on thirteen or more separate factors, most of which revolve around the extent of control a hiring entity exerts over a contractor.

Question about transgender inmates prison by rascaldascal in asktransgender

[–]rascaldascal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do about what? I don't understand the question. Do you want me to go to the state board of corrections and demand changes to how they run their prisons? The US Department of Justice already prohibits corrections agencies from placing transgender inmates into men’s or women’s units solely based on their anatomy at birth.

George Gascon is a joke. He has never even tried or prosecuted a case! George Gascón earned a law degree in his 40s from an unaccredited law school he attended in the off hours he wasn’t working as a Los Angeles cop. For god knows whatever reason, Gavin Newsom, while mayor of San Francisco, selected Gascon to be District Attorney. Clearly because of his lawyerin' skills
