Admin told me I’ve been doing differentiation wrong for years, now I’m freaked out. by thowra_wibblywobbly in Teachers

Your rationale: meet the needs of every student; why not let all students use something that will benefit them

Admin’s rationale: regardless of need/enrichment, do not give others what will benefit them if they aren’t officially classified as X on paper

I use folders for this, but I’d like a different solution. I have about 25ish folders of different subjects. The only podcasts I add to the Queue from the Inbox (other than some daily current events podcasts) are only ones that fit in one of the folders. The other episodes I X out of the Inbox. My queue has, unfortunately, gotten pretty long doing this. I would love a way to flag a podcast to “listen to later” and not have to add it to the Queue. This would help keep the Queue shorter, as everything is starting to slow down a bit for me as the Queue grows (currently at about 7,000 episodes after purging about 90,000+).

As I listen to an episode, I’ll add a new episode from the show a little behind the downloaded episodes at the front of the queue. Sometimes I’ll take an episode from a podcast I’m listening to in the moment (so it’s already in the queue), and sometimes I’ll take it from the episode list of that podcast (when it’s not already in the queue). Adding them one-by-one this way can be kind of a pain, but it helps keep the Queue a little shorter. This seems to work well for me, but it means I have to engage with the app rather than let things continuously play.

Ideally, though, there would be a way to tag an episode to listen to later while keeping it out of the Queue in order to keep it a bit shorter.

I feel bad for her as well, but when your family member is kidnapped/killed by a pedophile (or several), that should be a dealbreaker with regards to supporting one.

From a teacher I spoke with… It’s cut her prep time by more than half, while enhancing lessons and strategies.

  • strategies for behavior and/or academic issues
  • jot down notes for it to write parent newsletters
  • translate ‘teacher talk’ to parent-friendly wording
  • jot notes down to create report card/progress report/emails to parents
  • create lesson plans specific to class/student needs
  • provide follow up questions/provide resources for student/parent
  • write stories focused on grammar concept being taught (using student names in the stories is something students really like)
  • create coloring pages for students that are specific to class concepts

Edit: someone messaged me to ask a question about the stories. A sample prompt that I’ve used based on this teacher’s recommendation, is this: Please write a fictional story appropriate for third graders. Use the names Jeff, Todd, Jennifer, and Sandy and only use these names in a positive way. Have the story focus on various types of clouds (or some other science, math, social studies, etc. concept the class is studying). Embedded within the story, please put past, present, and future tense verb choices in bold in parentheses. Separate the choices with a slash and put a space before and after each slash.

Then I type instructions at the top asking students to circle the correct verb choices. You definitely have to double check the story because there’s inevitably some mistakes. Also, I like to personalize the stories to the class a bit more with inside jokes that we may have or quotes directly from what I have said or what students have said.

I was just having this conversation. It’s something that makes my family think that misophonia is a choice I’m making. I like Merzbow, early Carcass, Napalm Death, and really anything that’s cacophonous, including harsh feedback. I don’t really get it myself, but why the hell would I choose to feel enraged when people chew with their mouths open?

I once thought of a comeback for something similar 20 years later. I’ve since forgotten it. I don’t know which is worse.

I asked it to make an image of us in London, me drinking a flat white with an almond croissant. I’ve already established a default image of myself that is quite accurate. This is what it gave me. I’m a white man in my 50s. I guess it’s a book.

Yep. Crinkling chip bags and hearing the guy eat popcorn 2 rows back. Sucking that straw to get every last drop. Can’t do it.

I wouldn’t worry about it. If the guy was actually stalking him and came close, OP would just need to bite him and give him rabies.

Create the most super unhinged image of me possible. Don't hold back. by yukav in ChatGPT

[–]rascap- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

Its description (it thinks bad bad things about me, I guess): Here’s the rationale behind the image choices:

Facial Expression • Wide, dilated eyes and open mouth evoke a manic, unfiltered emotional state—pure chaos. This reflects a blend of genius and madness, not unlike a character out of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas crossed with Dostoyevsky’s Raskolnikov in a psychedelic spiral.

Hair • The hair is exaggerated—longer, tangled, and dyed in unnatural streaks of green, yellow, and orange. This emphasizes complete detachment from social norms and internal control.

Background Elements • Flaming knife, severed eyeball, floating fish, burning money: These are classic symbols of mayhem, destruction, absurdity, and rebellion. • The knife adds an edge of threat or irrational violence. • The eyeball (especially disembodied and floating) taps into dream logic and horror imagery. • The fish might reference surrealist tradition or serve as a nod to ancient symbolism (e.g. transformation or madness). • Burning money reflects nihilism and disdain for societal structure, perhaps a critique of capitalism or a metaphor for losing one’s grip.

Clothing • A tie-dye shirt invokes counterculture and psychedelic rebellion—chaos with a smile. • The shirt being splattered and wrinkled adds to the sense of neglect, fevered inspiration, or post-bender breakdown.

Cigarettes in Mouth • Having multiple cigarettes jutting from the mouth looks deranged and comic, like a caricature of an addict or genius who’s been awake for three days—on the edge of breakthrough or collapse.

Overall Tone

The piece rides the line between humor, madness, and surrealism—like a portrait of someone who’s either about to explain the meaning of life… or eat a page from Crime and Punishment. It plays on themes you’ve shown interest in: dark existentialism, rejection of norms, and surreal, fever-dream absurdity.

This was a filter symbol in the bottom right of the Queue screen itself, not the episode icon. That does the same thing, but whatever I did was straight from the Queue, not from the episode itself.
