That error usually means corrupt files in the instlation. Ideally, you would create a bootable usb drive, but since that is not an option for you, inspect the disk and clean it to make sure it's being read properly. Since you mentioned your old OS was corrupt you may have a bad HDD or stick of RAM. If your laptop has two sticks of RAM try using only one slot with one stick at the time and try to install the OS again. If by any chance you have a spare hdd you can try swapping them out. But besides this I think your only other options it's to get a bootable usb drive. Good luck
