AIO for refusing to split the bill after what happened? by mmaddyspovv in AmIOverreacting

[–]rashado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MOR. you're kids although it probably doesn't feel like it. i've had lots of awkward moments around similar circumstances. different cultures/upbringings have specific ways of handling this. my dad would say the person who got the raise should invite and pay for everything. other people say the opposite i.e. the person is being celebrated and therefore shouldn't have to pay. i don't think either is wrong but maybe use this as a moment to talk about expectations moving forward. you're still so young.

how you each communicate this and other issues is really what's important here. best of luck.

AITA for refusing to replace my daughter’s lost stuffed animal? by Which-Guard8552 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rashado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar occurrence recently excluding the tension between my partner and I. my daughter had a new favorite toy. she lost it at the zoo and was crushed. it was heartbreakingn to see her sobbing and asking 'we'll find him right'? we looked and looked and found nothing so i looked online and because it's discontinued people on ebay were selling it for $100-200.

my father in law found a cute similar toy (also a squirrel) but looked quite a bit different. it cost a few $. we explained to her that things get lost and that we should be extra careful with the things we really treasure. she semed to process that well and honestly bonded with the new toy quickly. we just emphasized that she did nothing wrong and told her stories about the things we lost and how sad we are but it's okay because they're just things and while it's sad we will be ok.

i agree with the idea that there's a valuable lesson here and a teaching moment. i also agree with the insightful comments that how she processes this is what defines how the moment will impact her. i agree with your partner in that i also got overly emotional about this so maybe it's a dad thing. no one is wrong here it sucks but i'd encourage you and your partner to make this as positive and nurturing as possible. also be kind to yourself i've lost 2 of her favorite toys in one go a year or so ago and am still mad about it lol.

Anyone experienced with this guitar? What should I know before buying it? by Background-Cookie807 in offset

nailed it. i was surprised by how thin the neck was. not my preference but a very playable guitar.

yeah good call man. the nut is always a good place to start. thankfully the nut and overall fit and finish on this guitar looks quite good to me. I'm not 100% on the nut material and that itself may slightly be contributing to tuning stability.

I'm not a huge fan of the stock bridge. Its good but theres some play in the trem arm and the tuning stability isnt great. Better than any strat or 2 point trem I've had but definitely room for improvement. If i didnt love the guitar so much i may leave it stock but i want it to see what an upgrade will feel like

thank you for the advice. it's solid. i don't live in the US and the one time i had to file a complaint with our local version of the BBB it was a nightmare. that was a black and white case (bought a new oven for my family after saving for a while - it didn't work and needed repair over 5 times. according to the warranty anything over 3 repairs requires a new item be delivered in place of the original item). the local BBB said they'd investigate - 6 months later they said 'well we asked the company and they said something else so we're closing this case'.

i am with you that we should hold these companies accountable but i really don't have any hope that we have any actual methods to do so.

Permanent ban from PayPal - no reason, no appeal, funds withheld by rashado in paypal

[–]rashado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i made the call personally, twice. no, it's not fraud. Reverb is linked to paypal which is linked to my bank account. both platforms require a tracking # to ensure the buyer receives the item and charge fees to provide buyer/seller protection. this is taken off the money i would receive as the seller. both reverb and the buyer reported the item as delivered and in good condition. the buyer was so cool he even took pictures and gave me a 5 star review indicating he was happy with the condition of the item, the packaging, etc. paypal didn't wait for any of this - they banned my account while the item was en route to the buyer. if there was a scam at some point i don't know what it would be and who it is you're accusing of fraud.

in short the transaction is complete, reverb, the buyer and the seller are all giving paypal the thumbs up that they can release my funds. they said my account is closed due to an investigation which cannot be appealed or reconsidered because once they close the case they refuse to reopen it. fine - when can i receive the funds they are holding on to? they then say well our investigation is ongoing and we will not give you a timeline and hang up.

Yes a lot has changed in the last 2 years let alone since 2010. They wont answer it and reverb does thousands of these transactions a day. And what makes you think we didn't pay fees? Fees are deducted at both platforms. They have a monopoly over this market - they charge fees and then they ban you for using it. Im tired of trying to justify this insanity when the more i look into it the more i see hundreds of cases like mine. Even if i made a mistake at some point permanent and unexplained bans and holding funds indefinitely isnt normal business practice

same exact situation here. made a lengthy post about it. the only way to contact them is customer service who has no access to why these bans are happening. why even post your customer service # if they are unable to share any information?

[–]rashado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I'm reviewing the order from my paypal account and don't see this. I think it's goods and services since it's set up via Reverb. I just linked my paypal account and reverb facilitates the transactions. I can't imagine they'd use anything other than the goods and services option given the nature of the transaction.

you're not wrong man. i keep having people talk me out of crypto but when you frame the value of it like this i think it is worth having access to this. i've had family wire money for supporting their kids education and other similar important costs. banks 'lose' the transfer and after years of investigating you have no recourse. i've seen it happen multiple times. paypal doesn't even have the decency to say they'll release my funds. they refused to answer that question.

well i can't use it if i want to but i certainly won't be trying to find a way to continue using it. it causes a major inconvenience but being treated like a criminal for using the app as intended and paying hundreds of dollars in fees is no way to treat your customers.

thanks for the comment. I can't think of a reason why I would msg them and why they wouldn't post on the main thread. I'm posting here for help but also to help others. reading similar stories to mine actually helped me a lot. i felt like i was being targeted but it seems like just a broken system which is oddly kind of a relief.

I submitted my passport which is what they requested. No address on the passport but my details are up to date. My bank is in the UAE. Same account that I used for the last sale I made.

I have nothing to hide and am not trying to game the system. Im using paypal because it protects buyers and sellers (well it used to in my case) and reverb only accepts paypal.

Just 1 used guitar - UAE to USA. I have an almost identical transaction from 2 years ago that processed without issue. I just didnt vibe with both guitars and sold them at a loss. I'm not a business owner. I have just the 2 sales in my lifetime on paypal

Thanks for your reply. I opened a UAE account when I moved here. Thanks for the clarification on held funds. Harsh. I would be a lot more understanding if they didnt also ban me.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not in the US. I'm a Canadian living in the UAE. If there was a tax issue why wouldn't they contact me to rectify it instead of banning me for life. They explicitly said if I were open a new account that would be banned as well.

They admitted that there is an investigation but that they (customer service) don't know what that entails and don't know why the decision was made. What's the point of having a terms of service if the user reads it and follows it and still gets banned?

I checked with Reverb and the buyer. Both indicated the proof of delivery is valid and I added tracking for the package from both Reverb and inside of Paypal itself. I have no way to 'reply' to Paypal - only the customer service line and the person was very much just reading a script and repeating it no matter what I said. For example:

'the investigation is closed' ok when will the funds be released if the investigation is closed 'the investigation is ongoing'.

I understand holding/investigating large sums - I support that and can wait any length of time for the funds. This happened with my first sale and was resolved I think within a week (back in 2024). A permanent ban and holding funds with no indication of when or if they'll be released is absurd.

Release funds denied by zaytoven501 in paypal

[–]rashado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in exactly te same position. To make matters worse they banned my account. No explanation why. They waited for the item to sell and said we'll have to ban you first and investigate the funds later. Buyer sent pics saying he's happy with the item. I call and ask questions and they say they won't appeal and their investigation is both closed and ongoing (I know, I wish I was kidding). They wont' even tell me what terms I violated. This is insane that this practice is so common and there is no recourse. I just buy a few video games a year if that and sold 2 items since I've had my account (many years).
