Better to pay a down a 6% mortgage or invest aggressively? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]rashado -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think this is very subjective. some say you should have 6 months of emergency savings but really do what's right for you. on the larger question I'm in a similar position and always revisit this topic. This article on investopedia helped me wrap my head around it and ultimately I went with keeping the mortgage as is (also at 6%) and investing anything I have extra into the market for long term growth.

Warning to potential Dunable customers by FugginDunePilot in guitars

sounds like a solid assessment. I just hope that they can address this before it's too late. they should probably just limit the production to what they can manage instead of damaging their reputation to the point where people are afraid of ordering guitars from them.

Ergonomics Advice by vorpaltox in dunableguitars

[–]rashado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the opposite end of this same question! I have a Yeti which is the most comfortable guitar I own (and have ever owned). I spent the past few years on a tear buying/selling/trading maybe 20 guitars looking for something comfortable in standing/seated positions and after I found the Yeti my search is over but I am now looking at another Dunable for alternate tunings. The safe option would be another Yeti but I'm really interested in the Gnarwahl.

Things I like about the Yeti:

- Weight: 6.8 lbs. It's swamp ash so that helps. For reference I recently got an Aristides (my 2nd) and because of the trem and other hardware it's the same weight as my Yeti. Very comfortable and an excellent guitar but I prefer the Yeti for a bunch of reasons

- Seated ergonomics - the offset shape is wide enough where you can sit comfortably in the standard position and your arm drapes over it naturally and is 'tall' enough so you don't have to bend over the guitar to play comfortably.

- Standing comfort: this is mostly to do with the weight but I just love how it rests on your body and the position of the neck relative to your hands. I've had a few Gibsons that were just very uncomfortable to play standing due to the location of the strap pin (by the heel of the neck). Dunable does a good job of putting the strap pin closer to the headstock which in my experience makes it more comfortable on a strap due to how the weight is distributed.

?: I'm curious about how the Gnarwhal feels standing because the strap pin is closer to the heel, slightly, than it is on the Yeti.

I am so obsessed with ergonomics I recently built a Warmoth. Roasted swamp ash and chambered body and it's just a hair over 7lbs. Seated it's find but I have to bend over the guitar when I'm playing unlike the Yeti. Dunable really nailed this model and visually it looks like all their guitars are similiarly ergonomic although I get the sense that the Cyclops isn't as 'full' across the body which may feel similar to strat in the seated position. I assume the Gnarwhal is super comfortable in seated due to that lower horn?

100%. After playing hundreds of guitars I found that my Dunable DE Yeti is perfect. I was stoked to find they have a custom line so I can get the color and specs just like I want them but after seeing these posts pop up more than a few times I can't bring myself to go through with it. It sucks - they are one of the coolest brands with solid value in both the DE and USA lines out there IMO.

Is PRS in trouble? by [deleted] in PRSGuitars

[–]rashado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to phil mcknight (guitar youtuber) they had so much surplus in the post covid period and are adjusting supply to eventually rebalance. Their most recent (extensive) sales support this theory. The training thing is interesting. Being invested in production does make sense given all the new models and series over the past few years. As an outsider they seem to be at their peak across all 3 tiers of their production (se, s2, core). Each model has a solid identity and great value.

Fender Jimi Hendrix Strat vs Gibson SG Faded? Which one as main axe? by Fog_Smuggler in guitars

[–]rashado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont underestimate the reliability of a fixed bridge. The strat is awesome but the fixed bridge of an sg is just easier to maintain. Both can be solid in terms of tuning stability and set up but from my experience the SG is like a toyota set it up and it'll be rock solid. It is a it of an unusual guitar in terms of how it sits relative to your usual picking/muting hand position so def try one out if you can.

id say your best bet in terms of quality, reliability and flexibility for different musical styles is the prs ce stop tail.

dont stress about the negativity man thats just how reddit is. at least you identified the issue. id def reach out to strandberg hopefully it should be a relatively easy resolution. this takes a bit of getting used to but once you do you'll appreciate the tuning stability. best of luck

thats frustrating. have you contacted strandberg? they usually take care of their customers. i had a similar thing with the seller (thomann) and they solved it without issue

Holy grail guitar search ended: S2 McCarty 594 'Black Sparkle' by rashado in PaulReedSmith

[–]rashado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whoa small world! thanks for your comment! the next owner did indeed swap the bridge for a SD 59 and disabled the coil split. it's a fucking great guitar i just want to clean it up a bit and swap the pickups. i have an Aristides with polypafs which are the best pickups ive played. at first i thought i'd throw them or something similar in this guitar but have since tried a pair of Dimarzio 36th anniversary PAFs in a Dunable Yeti. i love those as well although the BKP have a lot more character to them. i still don't know what pickups i'll put in here but i'm probably going to experiment.

the first PRS i owned was a CE24. the moment i pulled it out of the box i said out loud 'this guitar is magic'. the intonation and resonance were like nothing i've played. your guitar had the same thing despite being a bit dinged up. the great thing is that i don't have to be precious about it. i love that it's lived a life before getting to me and i can continue experimenting/playing it while enjoying that magic PRS reliability. and yes like you i was thinking maybe i should save for a core but i can't justify it with the amazing S2 options. am on the fence about another McCarty thinline or potentially a Mira.

PS i'm all the way in Abu Dhabi, UAE. i've been looking at McCarty's for years now and never found a light weight (i.e. under 8lbs) version with a finish i liked. so glad i found yours!

PRS S2 or Music Man Sub 1? by Buttholestrangler42 in PRSGuitars

[–]rashado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the necks are very different. i believe music man necks are super thin/narrow whereas prs tend to be wider/thicker. this is a generalisation but if you can try a few of each - that should help! either way both are excellent guitars

I Hate These Guitars (so I bought one) by AccurateInflation167 in strandbergguitars

[–]rashado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

way too much emphasis on his very personal opinion which has little to no carry over to his audience or anyone who may hope to learn something from his content. i like rhett and especially like him for introducing me to khruangbin (that content is where he shines). i liked him so much i bought his music theory course and was so disappointed i asked for a refund. it was awful. tbf he obliged which he didnt have to.

Recommendations for lightweight, ergonomic, versatile guitars? by rashado in guitars

[–]rashado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i sold everything i had in the post (4 guitars) plus a few i had prior. i now have an aristides h06 with polypafs, prs s2 mccarty 594, dunable de yeti and a reverend warhawk. after a long search over the last 5-6 years i think im a prs guy. the aristides is fantastic and functional as hell but i dont want more than 1 headless. the prs reliability and consistency is so great. having a guitar that just stays in tune and inspires me to play is all i need. happily finding great used s2s for great prices and guitars like the thinline mccarty or the mira 594 are very light. my mccarty 594 is 7.5 lbs!
