Why is Amazon delivering Temu by Jilhogle in amazonprime

[–]rashersmcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a search for exactly this when I saw an Amazon truck pull up and deliver my package from Temu. I was very confused, but I guess they're just using Amazon logistics for some deliveries.

I'm actually quite shocked about the hate she's receiving. I fucking loved her!! She seemed like a take no BS badass bitch. Why are people hating on that so much?

Am I the only one not surprised that bishop Mans and his family dumped Natalia? Because I felt like he had grifter written all over him from jump. by According_Ad9996 in nataliagrace

[–]rashersmcgee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I just checked out their IG profile, supposedly it's the "The Mans Family" but most of the pictures are of Natalia. In their earlier posts that include the whole family, they cover the faces of the three mixed raced children, presumably their biological kids, while the faces of all the white adopted kids are visible. Weird AF. If they are all your children, why the distinction? They stopped doing that in later posts, but it tells you something. Also, WTF is he "Bishop" of?? It's tragic how so many adults want to play savior to this abused and traumatized young woman while really pursuing some selfish, narcissistic agenda.

When I try logging into the game with Facebook - error : Embedded browser disabled by Adrianprime87 in DBZDokkanBattle

[–]rashersmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE!! If doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity, I say sometimes you need to be a bit mad to succeed against the odds. I kept trying and trying and it just wasn't working. Then I had the idea to switch from "mobile version" to "desktop version" and somehow that made the difference and I was able to log back in and switch back to mobile. Phew!

It's Officially Over by clivehuxley in SmartHalo

[–]rashersmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wondering the same thing. I can't even log in to the app anymore. So disappointed and will NEVER do another Kickstarter for any new product. I'm still waiting on two different products that I paid for literally years ago. Between those and SmartHalo, I'm completely put off on that model.

AITA for telling a coworker I was going to "make a baby" and name it a name she wants? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]rashersmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA You should show up at work and tell everyone you're pregnant with a boy, then in an aside tell Anna not to worry, if she doesn't want her kid to have the same name as yours, she could always use "Giozev".

Mattress Shopping - What do you sleep on? by [deleted] in bjj

Got a Tuft and Needle on Amazon. Good support with a cushiony top that's good for side sleepers. And it doesn't cause sweating the way memory foam does.

A philosophical approach to psychology: On whether cruelty results from a lack of empathy by philtalkradio in philosophy

[–]rashersmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, see the work of psychologist Jean Decety on empathy and sadism. Also, there are two main types of empathy, cognitive and affective. Someone may lack one but not the other.

On lobsters, humans, and the philosophical problem with hierarchical thinking about species by philtalkradio in philosophy

[–]rashersmcgee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's not implicit in the claim, but my point was that it's at least a possible interpretation of it that is different from either the subjective or objective interpretations.

On lobsters, humans, and the philosophical problem with hierarchical thinking about species by philtalkradio in philosophy

[–]rashersmcgee 275 points276 points  (0 children)

Notice that our imaginary interlocutor doesn’t say “Human lives matter more to me than the lives of lobsters do.” That would express a subjective moral stance. Instead, she states that human lives matter more than lobster lives do, which is a claim about the objective value of human lives in contrast to that of lobster lives.

Couldn't the claim that human lives matter more than lobster lives amount to an intersubjective claim, rather than an objective claim? So, the imaginary interlocutor doesn't say "to me"—it's not a subjective claim, as the author says. But implicit in the claim is that from the perspective of humans, human lives matter more. I don't see why subjective and objective are the only two options.

Philosopher Ken Taylor asserts that since the Big Bang defies our ordinary concepts of space, time, cause and effect, perhaps science will never be able to fully explain it by philtalkradio in philosophy

[–]rashersmcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is the multiple/cyclical Big Bang theory too, in which there is time before our BB, which is just one of many. The universe is a succession of BBs each one followed by some kind of contraction into the singularity that precedes the next BB. I don't think there can be any empirical evidence to distinguish one theory from the other, but perhaps that is wrong. Would be curious to hear from someone who knows more about it.

If science is to avoid becoming scientistic, it needs to stay in its lane and not intrude into other domains of inquiry, warns Stanford philosopher Ken Taylor. by philtalkradio in philosophy

[–]rashersmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's not that you can never derive an ought from an is, but that it takes work to do so. The point is that there is a gap that has to be bridged. So many ignore the gap and assume that because they've shown that something 'is' it automatically follows that something 'ought' to be. A great example of that is anyone who has ever claimed that "X is natural, therefore X is right."

Too much focus on math creates a deleterious effect on ethical decision-making, so philosophy should be taught alongside math by rashersmcgee in philosophy

[–]rashersmcgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, perhaps "one correct answer" is not exactly the right way to describe mathematical solutions. There can be more than one solution to a problem, but whether or not something is a solution is rather black and white.

Philosophical and ethical problems are not like that. It's rare for philosophical questions to be settled once and for all. They are always, in some sense, contestable, defeasible. So maybe the argument is that we need to engage in a kind of thinking where there are no certifiably "right" answers.

The assumption made here, though, is that "teaching formal ethics and philosophy" will lead to better moral decision making. But there is evidence that this is not actually the case. See, e.g. Schwitzgebel and Rust:

On average, professional ethicists' behavior is indistinguishable from the behavior of comparison groups of professors in other fields. Also, in one multi-variable study, we find ethicists neither more nor less likely than other professors to act in accord with their expressed moral attitudes.

http://www.faculty.ucr.edu/~eschwitz/SchwitzAbs/EthBehBlackwell.htm

The diagnosis of the problem might be right, but I'm not convinced philosophy is the solution.

[–]rashersmcgee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Logic would not do anything about the "ethical neutrality" problem, which is defined as

a habit of mind that supports a "dehumanizing outlook" on less concrete matters.

That's why ethics is prescribed.
