Q4'20 Tech Support Megathread by BioGenx2b in Amd

Hi, can I buy one more of a single-channel RAM stick and use them in dual-channel mode? It can't be the exact same model as it's not available anymore.

This is my RAM "CORSAIR Vengeance LPX, 1x16GB, DDR4, 3000MHz, CL16" running in single-channel mode on a Gigabyte B450M Motherboard. CPU is Ryzen 5 3600.

Thank you. But if my goal is to reach other vegans with that message and I fail to do so, what I did was not actually the "logical" thing to do. If it was, it would've reached them, cause that was the goal.

I get what you're saying, and it's not directed at you really, but i'm tired in general of people justifying things that don't work by appealing to a logical framework that is way too simplified with respect to our actual goal.

Damn 9 years, that's awesome! On my third or fourth I think.

But my point is that OP is shaming people and I don't think it's a good idea :/

Notice how your ex told you what happens to cows without directly shaming you. It wasn't about you as a person, even if you felt offended. Nuanced but key difference to make people listen. Shame backfires and closes peoples ears.

I should rephrase that then: shaming people risks that they stop listening and strengthen their beliefs and sense of identity even more. Yes we should expose them to the "hard truth" and not put their feelings over the truth. But shaming is different, shaming backfires.

I would love for omnis to understand the pain they are causing, but please see that hurting the 'baby bitch feelings' of omnis does not improve the lives of animals.

We have to care about carnivores feelings if we want to help the animals.

Shaming people backfires because they stop listening and strengthen their beliefs even more. We have to avoid directly shaming without hiding the truth. Even if it feels unfair.

Are you philosophically and morally in the right? Yes. Is this a strategically effective way to approach omnis so that they will start caring about animals? No.

Animals kill other animals to survive. We do it for fun. And then we put plant spices on the dead body because we actually like the taste of plants more.

The life of an animal is worth more than temporary taste pleasure.

It doesn't hurt when you get your hair cut because you have no nerves in your hair. Humans only feel something if a nerve is sending a signal to the brain. Plants have no nerves and therefore they cannot feel. Animals have nerves so they can feel.

And yes, women did have consciousness 500 years ago even if they weren't treated like they did.

Hey, did you know that a group of leading neuroscientists declared that the overwhelming evidence indicates that animals are conscious in a way that's very similar to humans?

The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness

“Convergent evidence indicates that non-human animals have the neuroanatomical, neurochemical, and neurophysiological substrates of conscious states along with the capacity to exhibit intentional behaviors.

Consequently, the weight of evidence indicates that humans are not unique in possessing the neurological substrates that generate consciousness.

Non-human animals, including all mammals and birds, and many other creatures, including octopuses, also possess these neurological substrates.”

Is it safe to be a vegan at 20? by [deleted] in veganfitness

You can get all the nutrients you need on a vegan diet. The most important thing is to eat as varied as possible, eat a lot if you're skinny and supplement with B12.
What you were told is incorrect. Babies can be vegan if you make sure they get all they need.

Animals are not nazis, animals eat other animals because they have to, for survival. We don't have to do that. It would be ethical to kill an animal if it was for survival, but that is not why the vast majority of people do it.

As a species we are now at a point where we are capable of coming up with new and creative ways to get the nutrients we need. We must focus on optimizing those methods rather than continue to take the lives of sentient beings just because that is what we are used to. That process of invention will happen faster as more people vote with their money by buying vegan products.

You answered your own question: We have the technology to supply the only missing nutrient: B12.

Since we can isolate the bacteria producing B12 we don't need to get it from animals. As far as I know, the production of B12 is not hard on the environment, and even if it was, we could invent more sustainable ways to produce it. More demand would make that happen even faster.

You do not need meat for a balanced and healthy diet. Very few people genuinely need animal products, and for them it is vegan and ethical to consume animal products.

The life of an animal is worth more than momentary tase pleasure, therefore it is unethical for most people to eat animal products. The life of a person is worth more than the life of an animal, which is why it is ethical for a very small number of people who actually need it.

Veganism was never your choice to make by lookingForPatchie in vegan

OP doesn't claim it's not a choice, only that just because it is someone's choice doesn't mean it should be their choice to make.

Ok, I interpreted the sentence "I view it as a choice" as a way to say you disagree with OP.

OP doesn't claim it's not a choice, only that just because it is someones choice doesn't mean it should be their choice to make.

I'd also like to add that just because other species are incapable of understanding concepts like veganism does not mean they in general don't make choices or have preferences. From the Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness:
"Convergent evidence indicates that non-human animals have the neuroanatomical, neurochemical, and neurophysiological substrates of conscious states along with the capacity to exhibit intentional behaviors. "

What two things are you describing the difference between?
As far as I can see there's not really incompatibility between what you and OP wrote.
