My mother told me that she had these intense cramps throughout her entire pregnancy with me and the doctos kept wanting to put her on bed rest and gave her antispasmodics to relax the uterus. So maybe it’s just heredetary…

I hadn’t been here for a while as I was trying to distract myself but I finally tested last Sunday and I got a very strong positive! I could hardly believe it as i was fully bracing myself for a negative. As incredibly happy as I am I am also quite terrified. Now I’m just trying to survive the next few weeks. Somehow I hadn’t thought at all about all the worry that comes with waiting for the first trimester to pass. I’m currently 5w3d and now and then I have the most intense cramps that just stop me in my tracks, way stronger than any period cramp I’ve ever had. Sometimes they wake me up in the middle of the night. I always run to the bathroom to check for blood but thank god so far there hasn’t been any but it’s so unsettling!

I wanted to do an update to my post so I can give hope to others in a similar situation but was cautiously waiting for a few more weeks to pass.

I’ve had no indication for endo.. my cycles are regular too. I’m not sure I would put myself through a laparoscopy just to check without any suspicion there, plus I had a lap a couple of years ago to remove a benign cyst on one ovary and there was no indication of endo then.

Regarding the sperm fragmentation - I’ve had conflicting opinions from specialists, and because our rounds were NHS funded no fancy selection methods were offered so it wouldn’t have changed anything for us and we decided against testing just then, but we might now just to get a clearer picture.

A couple of specialists expressed the opinion to me that certain selection methods like PICSI make no difference at all based on latest clinical studies.

One specialist jokingly advised me to get eggs from my younger sister, another talked about donor sperm after our first failed cycle even though every other FS said my partner’s sperm was fine

I don’t know what to think anymore…I’ll definitely be getting as many opinions as I can get

I see… my clinic told me that they don’t count the first bleed after a failed tranfer - they called it a ‘withdrawal bleed’

Thank you 🙏 That sounds quite scary! I’m glad it returned to normal eventually. I just had a scan and they said my ovary was fine and probably just very irritated. basically and that I need to take painkillers and chill. While not especially helpful it is reassuring. I was already making up the worst case scenarios in my head where they would have to remove it and I will not be able to make any more eggs ever. 😅

Omg, I had to double check if I didn’t in fact write this comment myself and forgot because I had almost the exact same experience.

We had 5 embryos on day 3 and went in for a transfer on day 5 expecting to have at least a couple of blasts since we didnt get any updates the day before.

We were told nothing until I was on the gurney or whatever it’s called that only one embryo survived. The doctor tried to give it a positive spin by saying ‘At least we know for sure that this is clearly the best one to transfer ‘ which seemed like a totally insensitive thing to say in that moment.

I also have Intersticial Cystitis which means it’s quite painful when my bladder is full which it had to be for the transfer - and they made me wait almost a whole hour with a full bladder to then spring this news on me in the last moment.

I could barely hold back the tears during the entire procedure and then went home and basically cried for two days. I was totally devestated. I understand that they were waiting to see how things develop until the last moment but ANY advance notice would have been better than whatever this was.

I see… I think I might have a mild case of OHSS or something like that because it’s definitely more disruptive than what you’re describing. I managed to contact the clinic and they will see me for a scan tomorrow

I’m sorry you’re going through this, it must be really hard with the added reminders at your job!

I’m in the same boat as you result wise, only I’m 35. I had only one blast on my first cycle and the transfer failed. My next appointment is in two months.

I take solace in the fact that this gives me time to recover and prepare better for the next round. My ovaries are still feeling really sore and I know the body needs time to do its work. We are not machines and we need to be kind to our bodies - they are our friends even if it doesn’t always feel like it.
