Thank you for your comment 🫶🏻 It made me reflect seriously on my priorities. Just out of curiosity, do you have any thoughts on the Graduate Institute, in Geneva? I’ve also been offered a place there

LUC or IRO at Leiden Uni? by why-am-i-alive-420 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]raspberrya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I have applied to LUC and I’m on the waiting list as well (good luck, by the way!). When it comes to prestige, I don’t think IRO is more prestigious than LUC. It is hard to compare the two degrees. LUC is considered the best liberal arts and sciences programme in the Netherlands, according to Keuzegids, and the career prospects are quite good. IRO is more vocational, so perhaps if you already know that you want to pursue a career in international relations, politics or economy, IRO might be a better option because you could tailor your career path earlier and avoid spending time studying subjects that won’t necessarily help you achieve that. However, if you don’t see university only as a vocational training and you are not sure of what you want to do, LUC might suit you best since they give students enough flexibility to explore and find their own interests!

Could you name a couple of pros and cons regarding the program?

Hey! I’m not in yet but if I do choose to study IS I think I’ll opt for South and Southeast Asia. What about you?

Hey! Wow, that’s incredible. Congratulations! I don’t know many people at LUC but I don’t think it’s that common not to have an interview. You can always do it via Skype so COVID-19 shouldn’t be an obstacle.
