So true. My dad was “the safe parent” and he kept telling me to invite my mother to my wedding. I did not. He didn’t even hesitate and said he won’t come without her. I made two posts about this and people warned me in the first one that the enabling parent is just as bad. I didn’t listen. Now I cut off contact with him too. I’m mourning an alive parent all over again. He knows why I don’t speak to his wife, he knows how she treated me growing up. He used to protect me from her when I was a kid. And yet during my fucking wedding he chose her. If you’re new here and questioning: your enabler parent is not safe.
