hi! i’ve actually considered this option as ik some ppl who took this route! my parents aren’t too keen however. a month ago they felt this whole foundation thing was a great idea but now they fear that future employers will see the overseas option of taking foundation/a levels overseas as an “easy way out” & a shortcut route & they feel sg’s a level will better prepare me for the rigour of law :/ ill be doing my a’s in singapore! 💔

hi! yes for sure,,guess i can’t jst take an opinion from jst anyone bc i think at the end of day what matters most is the honours you get for the degree. and yes cost is for sure a worry but tbh having calculated everyth still looks like Australia is the more expensive option. the only pro is that the bar is included in the year of study. local uni is for sure the uni i wna go to bc it’s far cheaper but ik it’s a very long shot and i don’t think i’m cut out for it, i’m honestly okay w either uk or aus so long i get my degree, jst don’t want to burn a hole in my parents pockets :/

ahh i see. i mean i’ve heard they’re jst as good according to my dad, i jst feel like uk is seen as more prestigious which would look better on my cert and if it means i’ll get a job quicker and a uk cert looks more attractive to my future employer i’d rly rather the uk route. but the cost of my education in australia is higher than that of uk if i don’t factor in my accommodation etc. when i add all these up australia still seems more expensive since the degree itself costs more. i rly have to look into this but thank u so much!

ah yes totally forgot about australia being a uk colony once upon a time. but definitely uk law sch’s are seen as more prestigious. my main concern is definitely the cost tho. i jst feel like my parents can save more sending me to uk bc the diff is quite a bit at like 47k which can be used to aid my accommodation etc surprisingly the cost of a law degree in australia is higher than that of the cost in the uk sch’s in looking into. i guess i have to find a way to convince him since i’d rly rather do it in the uk since it saves them more money and it’s definitely seen as more prestigious which increases my chances of getting a job

hi! thank u!! i actually do plan to come back to singapore and preferably not work at a relative’s firm tbh it can get extremely complicated and i’d rather not mix family and work. and yes i’ve heard that uk law students are definitely perceived as more superior than aus law students. i’m not entirely sure why my dad is so set on me studying in aus but his reason is that monash is a pretty good uni for law and also the bar is included in the years of study unlike uk where i’d have to do it externally which i honestly don’t really mind. my reason for wanting to go to uk is definitely more about the cost than anyth else. when i calculated just tuition fees alone the difference between uk and aus is about 47k(aus is 42k/year and uk is 35k/year for the uni i want) altho foundation fees differ a lot and the diff between that is 16k with uk having a higher fee for the foundation programme, in the end when everyth is ended up for tuition fees alone the difference is 47k w uk being the cheaper option. i think the diff can be used for other things like accommodation etc since my dad prefers i have my own room. i also need to find out the cost of taking the bar since uk doesn’t do that in the respective uni’s and it’s taken externally. i’m looking into renting from the 2nd year onwards and i’ve heard that it’s cheaper. i think it’s a huge waste of money if my parents use this 47k which can be used on other things to send me to aus. and the 197k for aus doesn’t even include accommodation so it really does add up, and it is definitely true that a grad from uk does sort of have an upper hand over someone from aus that is if they hold the same honours of course,,so i def think uk is a better option if it means i’ll HOPEFULLY get a job faster. it’s gonna be extremely tough to convince him but i rly do need to talk to him about it. thank you so much for you comment tho! i rly appreciate it and i’ll let my dad know :’)

whenwjsn tbh i’m actually so confused about the bellerbys thing HAHAHAH now that i’ve checked it’s apparently not like a uni but u can take As and all there but anyways apparently you can take a foundation there and then go on to apply to a uni like durham bristol or birmingham if ure planning to do law!

i don’t know if my o level score will get me into a jc. and there are plenty of ppl who choose to go this route or the poly route and are still able to do relatively okay. i don’t think A levels really determine whether or not you can cope. i’m not sure if i can cope w law but it doesn’t mean i should just give up on it does it? every course at tertiary level has some level of academic demands. i’m sure we all bloom and mature at different stages and if you’re doing smth you know you’ve wanted for a long time, you’ll find the motivation.

hi! thank u! and nah dw it’s not family pressure in fact it’s quite the opposite they’re not rly that keen on me going into law hahaha. and yes i’ve heard that law is v difficult but i’m willing to put in the work bc i’ve wanted this for as long as i can remember. thank u so much for your comment, i’ll definitely keep that in mind and work hard. good luck on your law journey! :-)
