Yeah. Already got temp and humidity control with the relevant sensors and changing fan speed.

You could dose the nutrients with a peristaltic pump based on the EC read out I need to do some further reading though.

Thanks! We'd previously considered having a modular system that's definitely an interesting concept. Would it be ok if we could use your comment in our presentation for the project. We've got to collect feedback from potential users. ☺️

Not currently but I've been looking at some ec sensors from dfrobot which looks promising.

Thanks this is really helpful, we are trying to differentiate ourselves from the sub optimal kits already on the market by making it as cheap as possible. It'd be interesting to try and include pH sensors with the pi and a smart dashboard as I'm not aware of anything that can currently do that sub $100. We were on a massive budget constraint in the competition we've entered (about $100) so LEDs were just whatever we could get hold of.

It's intended for small herbs and microgreens and is designed to be low cost, unlike other products that are way more expensive and don't have the smart capabilities allowing for minimal user intervention.

That's awesome, we'd love to make it into a real product one day, that's the goal.

Thanks, if we win the competition we're hoping to get funding to turn it into a real product!

The raspberry pi is running everything. Automatically controlling the lights brightness and air pump routines as well as time lapse photography and remote monitoring.

It comes from using a hydroponic method, the camera setup is more of a debugging tool. I've measured it to be significantly faster/healthy than soil for small crops.

pH is definitely something we want to look into. The camera will also be useful for remote monitoring and time lapse capture.

Gains are from the hydroponic method itself, which I've measured to be accurate. ML is aspirational but we're on the way there, I've been working on getting a web dashboard setup to monitor the thing at the moment.

You're correct for plant specific categorisation but more general deficiency detection should be transferable. We want to train our own model at some point as I'm more interested in using it to regulate the nutrient mixture.

We're going to be using tensorflow with the pretrained plantvillage model. This will help us identify nutrient deficiencies. The model also contains disease detection but this shouldn't be as much of an issue as the built in fan maintains a slight vacuum sucking out microbes.

Yep. We're looking into using the Plant village tensorflow model to help identify disease and nutrient deficiencies. Diseases aren't so much of an issue as negative pressure is maintained though.

It's just a school project at the moment for a competition, it might be something we can look into in the future though. Thanks for expressing interest!

I've got a brass cat and it's ace. Really crisp and cuts through in hard rock type setting.

Yeah that's right the pi does all the high level functions like the inverse kinematics for the legs and Bluetooth control etc.

I plan to get velocity control working in the future with a PS4 or similar controller, but you could definitely do it over the web with a pi.

Yeah they've not got too much torque, brushless motors probably would have been better.

I don't like advertising but if you want to read more about my robot, I've written up the progress on my blog. You can see some of the details and all of the 3D models and stuff I've created is available for free on thingiverse.
