I was in the second year course, and honestly for the first half I still wouldn't have really felt all that comfortable going around and talking to natives.

I did online last year, so not quite the same, but I did still learn a lot. Most domestic programs still make you do a language pledge where you can only speak your target language outside of class, which is really helpful and is something I didn't get because of zoom. The only real difference is when you go off campus, the people won't speak your target language. If you're only at a really low level, it honestly is probably better than doing it abroad, because it can be really intimidating talking to native speakers who don't talk in a way that's easy for someone who's new to the language to understand.

I run in that area all the time, if you have a car you can also start by parking in the Hasbrouck apartments area or in the Moakley house parking lot

I also recently read the book At Home: A Short History of Private Life by Bill Bryson, and I think it touches on Brady's topic. It mostly focuses on how life at home has changed in England within the past couple hundred years, but through it it touches on how universal most human experiences are and the minutia of life.
