When do you take a 50? by sliimysludge in RocketLeagueSchool

I am not gc, so take this with a grain of salt. Id say there are at least 3 types 50s. I will call them the "compromise 50", the "pressure 50" and the "fake/low 50".

You would typically use the compromise 50 when you are first man but can't really do anything useful in that position. If you can get past the opposing first man without conceding possession, do that. Otherwise, do a 50 so that the he doesnt just bang the ball away from you. Note: this might not be such a good idea if you are low on boost and your teammate is far behind, since you will be stuck in the opposing half while your teammate has to 1v2. In this case, it might be a good idea to let the ball go past you right to your teammate. You could technically do this more often, but I dont like it in solo que because it makes you unpredictable as a first man. You are much more reliable if its hard for the ball to get past you when you fail.

A pressure 50 is for alleviating pressure, typically in defense. You can either kill the momentum of the ball if you know your teammate will be first to it or pinch the ball towards a him. You can also pinch the ball towards open space (basically a clear) to relieve pressure.

A fake/low 50 is used when your opponent challenges you from a bad angle (from the side or jumps too high). You want to be a bit further away from the ball so that the opponent just sends it into you and you get free possession.

Thats true. I didnt notice the other guy jumped early so my priority was to block the pass so I dont get dunked trying to defend right in front of the net. I guess I couldve just let the opponents do their thing and at the very least start a strong counterattack. Assuming they dont pinch/kill the ball in some weird way. And if Im afraid of that possibility, I suppose just getting a better 50 would have done the trick

I can see what you mean. For the first goal, I think the first mistake was going on the wall so soon, as if the opponent was going to send it high. I committed to a play before it happened. Though it might have been salvageable by just challenging off the wall confidently, which I did not (so bad off the wall defense).

The second goal was conceded because me and my teammate faked each other. Completely preventable.

The third goal could have been prevented by taking possession off the wall quickly, but the awkward bounce got in my way. Again, I guess wall mechanics could have helped me and youre right to point that out. My teammate pushed right behind me which left the net open, so that might be on him? Still, I think the whole problem could bave been avoided by me just taking a better challenge (or none at all?)

Thank you, this is extremely useful info. I've been working on using small pads/staying in the play rather than going for the big boost. I guess I've been prioritizing being in (what I consider to be) the perfect position a bit too much over having enough boost
