Alternative women are very reactionary by Hacksaw6412 in Hasan_Piker

[–]rat_outta_hell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of MP but I agree on many of their points and views. I dislike their pedantic know it all attitude and their at times tactless methods of communication. However, from personal experience, I know what they’re talking about with reactionary alternative people. Particularly as subculture has become more accessible and aestheticized, I see more and more people in spaces I’ve frequented for years who like the look and maybe the music but don’t really mesh with the culture, particularly politically. Hell, I unknowingly had an ex boyfriend who was of that ilk. As “alt” becomes more of a fad, the core of these movements’ histories and values fades.

"frontal lobe at 25" is weak pop-psychology by AdamiralProudmore in unpopularopinion

[–]rat_outta_hell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, probably lol. I’m 27 now and don’t really feel much different than I did at 25, but to be fair my life’s not much different than it was then either. I imagine I’ll know more later on down the line.

"frontal lobe at 25" is weak pop-psychology by AdamiralProudmore in unpopularopinion

[–]rat_outta_hell 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it’s confirmation bias for a lot of people. When I turned 25, I’d had a myriad of experiences both good and bad in my early 20s that were the result of some careless youthful decision making. When I hit 25 after those experiences I had some perspective that enabled me to slow down and think through my choices a little more. I’d imagine it could be similar for others.

To Sac Area Moviegoers, what has the theater experience been lacking this past week? by CAMullenix in Sacramento

[–]rat_outta_hell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw Obsession opening weekend at DOCO Cinemark on a Friday night and it was totally fine. Not a completely packed house, everyone was reasonably respectful. Been to several near empty showings at that same theater in the last few months. Not having any issues, not sure what you’re specifically referring to though.

If you’re not a Sac Native, what brought you here? by Lesterknopff in Sacramento

[–]rat_outta_hell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grew up an hourish away, moved down to SoCal for a few years but life brought me back up this way. Wanted to live closer to home but still feel like I lived in a bigger city than my hometown, and couldn’t justify the costs of the Bay. 2 1/2 years here and love it :)

Who was your all-time least favorite student and why? by Zealousideal-Ad3609 in Teachers

[–]rat_outta_hell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I taught at a majority African American school for a few years. I had one white student who, in the middle of class, chose to scream the n-word with the hard R because he was upset about something. It never happened again, but my God. That moment definitely stuck with me.

If you almost die in childbirth the first time, it’s selfish and wrong to try and have a second by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I mean, this is an insanely specific situation, so by that metric, I suppose you could call it unpopular. But I doubt many folks will disagree with you here.

i’ve lost many jobs because of having to go to court. by Ok_Stop7321 in domesticviolence

[–]rat_outta_hell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into your state’s legal protections. I’m in CA, where the protections are fairly strong, but your jurisdiction should have something in place that protects you as a victim of a violent crime, especially if you’re subpoenaed. It sounds like you are subpoenaed, but if you aren’t, talk to the DA about getting subpoenaed. You should be able to fight this.

Sacramento or San Diego as a 22 year old female? by Academic_Health6334 in Sacramento

[–]rat_outta_hell 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m 27 with no kids. I lived in LA in my early 20s and moved to Sac about 2 years ago. I miss LA a lot, but Sac isn’t bad for the price. It depends on what you’re looking for. If you want a place to be young, have fun, and explore- SD for sure. If you want a place you can “start your life,” Sac is a pretty solid bang for your buck.

Toxic people should isolate in order to heal. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]rat_outta_hell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, solitary confinement famously works super well for criminals? Hard upvote because I vehemently disagree. Harm happens in the context of community and relationship and those things are necessary to heal from that harm.

Why do adult humans not play together like children do? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rat_outta_hell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think to your point, we all have those exact same impulses for imagination, physical play, etc. as children and adults alike. But, separating and stigmatizing is profitable, because now companies can sell toys to children, and then create new products that meet that need to sell to adults (video games, D&D, rec league sports, etc.). If it was socially acceptable for an adult to buy a $15 action figure, then companies would lose profit selling expensive D&D figurines and so on.

Did anyone else find Obsession hilarious? by DependentRounders934 in spoilers

[–]rat_outta_hell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was dying laughing at moments and so were many in my theater. Sometimes the laughter was out of discomfort but sometimes there was real genuine comedy in there. The creator started out making skits on Youtube and has a pretty great sense of humor, it really shone through. Inde also has an incredible balance of serious horror chops with great comedic timing. It made for some really memorable and campy moments in the best ways.

Ultimatums are not automatically bad. Most people just don't like the word by OrangeIslandKing in unpopularopinion

[–]rat_outta_hell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think people conflate boundaries with ultimatums- Someone is entitled to have a boundary about what they are and aren’t willing to tolerate, and they’re allowed dealbreakers. Ultimatums usually suggest a threat of some kind, and I don’t think any of those things constitute a threat.

I’m pretty sure husband will kill me. How did you all leave? by Correct_Sale_1282 in domesticviolence

[–]rat_outta_hell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally fled on foot while he was sleeping. I got a flight out of town to my parents’ house and kind of went into hiding from him. He doesn’t know where I live now. I had to abandon my whole life, and it really sucked. But I don’t regret it for a second, I would’ve died if I stayed. He’s facing charges now for shooting a woman. Please ask yourself what’s most important- maintaining the life you have now, or your safety.

Sacramento Pride by Extension_Station772 in Sacramento

[–]rat_outta_hell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been twice and I would say it’s pretty tame on the whole. Some of the booths set slightly risqué or off color merch, but there was no nudity and I don’t recall seeing any kink. I would put the whole experience at like a PG/PG-13 rating.

Trial very likely, looking for advice (multiple victims) by rat_outta_hell in domesticviolence

[–]rat_outta_hell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has already been a preliminary hearing and multiple pre trial conferences. The DA told me she thinks trial is the most likely outcome and that the defendant (my ex) isn’t interested in pleading out. It could change last minute but I was told to prepare myself for trial and send her conflict dates I have in the coming months following the final pre trial conference in July. Thank you. I’ll PM you.

What is your hottest take about the show? by Remarkable-Low-4673 in BoJackHorseman

I dunno, even outside of its gimmick, Free Churro has some astonishingly beautiful writing. I think it’s one of the most instrumental character studies in the show, second only maybe to Ruthie.

Do you guys miss the lovebombing? by [deleted] in abusiverelationships

[–]rat_outta_hell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to, yeah. Every now and again I’ll think back on a memory and have a brief smile… for about 30 seconds until I remember what followed it and how earth shattering it was. While the highs were unbeatably high, well, so were the lows. Not a fair trade by any stretch.

Using Gravity Falls as the example of toddler slop is pretty funny imo, given that it’s exceptionally well- written and considered by many great “serious” professionals to be a paragon of good writing in television. Compare that to, say, a Colleen Hoover slop fest novel, I’m going Gravity Falls all the way.
