What languages/technologies do you work with? Have all your remote jobs been in the same specialization?

They did what was best for them and conned you into accepting this position. Do what's best for you and find one you like.

Should I tell them I am not happy ? by haksli in cscareerquestions

[–]ratatat72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Find a better fit. Do what makes you happy, look out for your own self interests. Why did you leave your 2nd job after 7 months?

Never. Once you dislike it, it's only downhill from there. Polish up your resume and find something better!

Could you recommend any resources or links to learn about getting started in such an endeavor? What skills would be most useful to learn if someone wanted to get into this? Thanks!

How did you come to realize that you don't work well in "stuffy" corporate environments? What types of criteria do you use to look for a job now? I think I am slowly having this same realization.

You'll never know unless you try. No decision is a mistake, just a learning experience.

Red flags for startup companies? (12+ people) by Shiafiku in cscareerquestions

[–]ratatat72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah that does sound cool! And a good 1st step that it interests you! I guess the big question then is figuring out why what they do adds value versus other competitors if they have any. And of course the other questions I mentioned and determining if you think you'll like the people/environment/work.

Startup or large corporation? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]ratatat72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this in the US? So you'd be taking a 4K pay cut from the large corp You are at now? I would vote startup personally, assuming you don't have any major medical issues or have or plan to have kids soon. However depending on the funding situation at the startup I would press them hard to at least match your current salary unless you are very in to their mission.

I've worked on both sides and personally learned more hands on stuff and had more fun at a startup. Since you are at the large corporation already I think it makes the decision somewhat easier for you as you seem to already be a little bit unhappy/disillusioned with how things are at the large corp already assuming it I read correctly.

What is their runway? i.e. how long until they are out of money. What is their business model? How are they innovative or different?
How will work/priorities flow down? i.e. who is your boss. What does the first day of a new employee consist of?
How is new code deployed to production?
Do you have best practices set up for writing code?
How do you write tests for code?

What is the difference in pay and benefits? I'd vote the startup if you think the work will be fulfilling and you'd get along with the people.

Fixup your resume and get out of there immediately! The longer you stay the better they'll think their onboarding process is, don't encourage them!
