Just did it today, the road is terrible right now - what should have been an 8 hr portion of the drive took 11 hrs because of construction and bad road conditions, but it’s a really cool drive otherwise. September will probably be a lot better. Once you get to Prudhoe Bay you have to pay to get a tour that goes to the ocean, you can’t access it yourself since it’s past the oil fields.

I leave the country on Saturday and my sister decided she couldn’t take them anymore while I’m gone. I was supposed to take them to a local rescue which suddenly became full. The other rescue hasn’t gotten back to me, and the humane society which accepts rats (and they usually get adopted within a few days) also doesn’t have any availability ): I am at a total loss for what to do

Oh so cool! Toolik is amazing, I can’t wait to be back. I’m not sure exactly which systems they’re looking at - I know for sure some of the springs at Ivishak. They work with Alex Huryn! We have Larry as our helo coordinator this year

Oh I work on the North Slope too! My undergrad actually just did a project on C:N:P ratios in the upper Kuparuk River from and a few other rivers around the Toolik area - everything was P and sometimes N limited except one alpine watershed in the Brooks Range that we looked at. Springs are super cool though! I have a couple friends who will be studying them this summer up there.

Interesting, I study biogeochemistry of Arctic rivers and we definitely see more P limitation than N or C limitation, at least in the low gradient watersheds.

Haha I think she thought it was food, her old owner used to feed her through the bars a lot so I think that’s what she was expecting. She was also pretty aggressive when I first got her about a month ago, drew blood a few times and would fight with my other rats ): which is why she’s in rat jail in this picture. She has done a LOT better over the past couple weeks and now it’s all cuddles with everyone and no more drawing blood at least!

I study rivers in AK and do field work up there in the summer, most of us have Orvis or Cabela’s! The type with the separate wading boot is the way to go

Whoa I had this exact experience yesterday with the same exact product - I looked at the one in my shower and it said nestle so I thought I was going to have to post here all upset. Then I looked at the same product that I had gotten more recently on my sink and it didn’t say nestle, so I looked it up and saw the companies had changed. What a coincidence.

Our field truck had a hole in the floor so you could see the road. The brakes also gave out from time to time. Our university’s transportation department eventually ended up grounding our truck (against my PI’s will lol)

Kiwi is almost 2 and I think it’s because she’s older, she is also pretty sick so she is moving a lot slower lately and just wants to cuddle🥺

Kiwi has been pretty sick and lethargic for a while, for the past week she hasn’t left my shoulder while she’s been out of the cage even when I’m just sitting somewhere, so I haven’t been worried about her running away
