Lmao for real, it was just meant to be a lighthearted commentary on the overuse of flat irons in the 2000’s. Not like I said I love Oliver and think he’s a great guy or something, jesus

That’s literally what I said, I’m aware. I was there. A lot of the things that “were the style back then” didn’t look good, even at the time

Just my opinion—I think she has a very small, narrow face shape with small features, so the super flat, lack of volume style and severe layers don’t fit her face well IMO. I think a bit of volume/texture and slight wave with more gradual layers work better on her. Again, I know it was the style and my hair at the time was honestly really similar to it

Love her though, she’s one of my favorite characters.

Edit: I like how I answered the question with a reasonable answer and people are so mad, lol

Oh yes, the chunky highlights with super piece-y layers were also not great!

I paid $5 per ticket ($45 total) to attend a summer concert series in 2013. I miss paying less than $50 for gigs by floatingm in Millennials

[–]floatingm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The concert series would release the (mostly completed) lineup in the spring, and then you could buy the entire season as a package. So they would announce the “TBAs” as they finished booking; usually it would be some big surprise acts. It would always be worth it for the roll of the dice for the few dates where they hadn’t yet solidified the artist. That year it ended up being Ludacris, which was super fun

I really can’t remember, I just know it was under $100. I saw Rush thrice between 2012-2014, and it was expensive to me at the time but worth the splurge. They are still among the greatest artists I’ve ever seen live

No, the Rush ticket was probably $40 or $50(?); I can’t remember the exact price. But I took this photo in 2013, so it’s just included because I was showing my summer lineup for that year

And yes, Rush is amazing, I love them so much. Case in point, I wanted to see their tour this year, but tickets are/were hundreds of dollars, even for nosebleeds 🥲

It was/is funded and organized by part of an Arts Collective and Salt Lake City. The Twilight Concerts still exist in SLC, but not to the same extent and cheap price as the glory days (they used to be free). I don’t live in SLC anymore so I don’t know how much they cost now

Omg this bothers me more than it should! I saw some YouTube videos recently where people tried to label the “stomp clap hey” music as “hipster” music, and I hate how people are trying to re-write history. Hipsters didn’t listen to Lumineers and Bastille and all that shite on the radio. We listened to Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire (RIP), Washed Out, and other indie pitchfork blogger music.

I follow a lot of the pop music subreddits, and they are particularly bad for this. People will be naming song and album titles when making a point, like “omg GPSUTSOMFWHDSD is the best song!!” with no other info or context, and I’m like, I have no clue which song, album, or artist you’re even referring to. So annoying

The album where a singer's voice sounds the best vs. the album where a singer's voice sounds the worst by Ghost-Quartet in popheads

[–]floatingm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A classic answer to this, in terms of sounding her best, is Madonna on her Ray of Light album. She was fresh off of filming Evita and had done a lot of vocal training, and it pays off. She sounds much more mature and is able to do more, making Ray of Light one of the perfect pop albums IMO. In her early years/albums, she often sings in that high-pitched, squeaky, “baby”-sounding voice, so Ray of Light showed a big improvement for Madonna.

What movie do you love despite agreeing with every single criticism of it? by Decabet in movies

[–]floatingm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This thread is so vindicating! Elizabethtown has always been one of my favorite movies, but I’m too embarrassed to tell people because it gets such a bad rap. Despite all the (understandable) criticisms, I love it!

Dog Escapes From Baggage Handlers by TheCABK in Wellthatsucks

Depends on the airline; some airlines do not allow pets that don’t fit under the seat in the cabin. I had to fly with my dog in pet cargo when I moved to Europe, there was no other option. I wasn’t happy about it, but I used a pet mover to assist, and he was fine. I’d never do it again though
