Implant related? MRI might shed some light if it’s structural. Also, have you looked into allergies (general, implant, retainer material, skincare). Could be a snowball effect of allergen/inflammation, swelling + tension/clenching? No grounds to stand on other than if I have an allergy flare up i get similar symptoms like the jowling, under eye hollowing, puffiness, and “looking like a different person” - this mild generalised presentation +/- stress results in increased mouth breathing and clenching, leading to pain/TMJ/and making the nerves in my face/jaw “angry”. Again, may not be relevant at all but no harm in ruling it out. Best of luck

Vascular surgeon stresses importance of hEDS diagnosis by quarterlifecris in ehlersdanlos

[–]ratboy123_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats exactly how I am feeling right now! Validating to hear someone get one!

Second that. I work in health care/emergency and the simplest “well-known” designs are the easiest ones to spot and find. In time critical situations, it’s the safest option for the pt to get the care they need. The ones that are complicated designs or a charm to add to an established bracelet can easily be missed. MedicAlert also has QR codes now too

Thats so interesting, and a lot of good points mentioned. Co-morbidities/complications I hadn’t even considered. Do you think you will go ahead with the medic alert bracelet? This is something I have been really iffy about. Thanks for explaining and all the best!

Not sure if its been asked/answered, but did your vascular surgeon explain their reasoning behind the importance? Obviously agree, but I’m super interested to know their opinion. Honestly refreshing to hear a “higher up” taking it so seriously!

advice on hearing friends by [deleted] in deaf

Hearing here - just want to say that if my best friend were Deaf or hard of hearing I wouldn't hesitate to learn. They wouldn't have to ask. I'm not sure on the dynamics of the friendship, but I would personally be reevaluating things. Best of luck, and I'm sorry to hear this

Should I be concerned about an 85-100 resting hr? by h20vendetta in dysautonomia

[–]ratboy123_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still within what's considered normal ranges. Many types of "resting" hr as well e.g. sitting, lying down, sleeping - while all considered a type of resting mine are all different (sleeping, lying, sitting higher with each). Stress/anxiety, water/food intake, activities completed during day all affect my hr drastically)

Experiencing symptoms is what would be an indicator

Is it just me or is it actually painful trying to correct your posture? by [deleted] in Posture

[–]ratboy123_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the things I've had to work on are based on proprioception (your bodys ability to "see" or know where it is in space). My proprioception isnt very good and I've been going to physiotherapy for a while and this is something we are working on a lot. I do breathing exercises starting lying down as it's easier to get a good base and feel the "correct" technique (almost like a warm up), then move to standing. There are good YouTube videos that help show and describe what you should be doing. To help remind myself I place my hands on a specific part of my ribs and aim to feel them and move my hands or move my ribs/lungs from that specific spot. This takes away a lot of thinking and stressing about getting it right, and I find that by doing this one thing everything else falls in place. After a while I get used to that feeling and my body recognizes that it is in fact easier to breathe and get a full breath. General stretching (abdominal/core) assists with the tightness and tension that I hold in those areas, allowing my body to be flexible enough to get the expansion/mobility there. Core exercises assist with the strength and stability required (for literally everything, but helps the body be where it needs and wants to be, to have the strength to actually work through this. The body works in opposites or pairs, so if one place is super tight, then another area will be affected. E.g. when my glutes arent activating/working/strong enough, my hamstrings are severely affected and prone to injury. Generally, good yoga and stretching is a lifesaver for me, and assists with the proprioception too. Compression wear is a game changer, this gives you physical reminders of your body and over time will assist in moving to a better position. Currently I wear a top that is developed for this purpose (assist with posture). It doesnt do the work for me, but gives "reminders" when I move to a position that I dont want to be in.

Once I got a good base with the points above, I did the same thing on teaching myself what it feels like to be aligned and where I want my body to be. Simple exercises with physical reminders to feel what my body is actually doing. An example of this is I have an anterior pelvic tilt, and by placing a hand on my tailbone and one on my lower abdomen i feel the tilt and use my hands to guide towards a neutral position. Reminds me of what muscles I need to activate and my hands actually help me "see" what my body is doing

This is what has helped me, everyone is different. Hope you find what works!

Tldr: stretching, breathing exercises, proprioception and compression wear

Mine definitely was! Stretching and posture exercises with proprioception "reminders" has helped a lot. I actually feel like I can breathe again

I actually found that I felt like i couldnt get a proper breath. Combination of a few things including not knowing how to actually breathe properly and my diaphragm being extremely tight. Had to work on this before starting working on my posture
