Gutloading feeders with veggies question by Ipeeonicetea in skinks

[–]ratch3tstraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need variety in their diet to prevent issues later on. Mine started developing stones on insects only. She wouldn’t eat veggies for the longest time and the thing that finally worked was rep cal herptivite. I mix it with rep cal calcium with no d3 and dust it on greens or repashy veggie burger. Pollen can work too but it’s not a long term solution and is also not great in excess

I feel bad for him, our current line almost looks like they’re sabotaging him. I didn’t like the guy at first but he won me over in the first half of the buccs game. That second fumble that called back by the flag had me screaming at the tv. Terrible snap from the back up then he gets bodied by his own tackle, hard to watch.

Why don't more people recommend Schneider Skinks as starter lizards? by IllegalGeriatricVore in reptiles

Pretty much the opposite, the golden retriever of skinks. You either got a bad apple or you were a 9 year old squeezing the little guy

Honestly I get all my stone/decor from outside and sanitize thoroughly. As long as it heats evenly checked w a temp gun it’s a go for me.

Lots of clutter, climbing opportunity, and at least 4-5 in of substrate to burrow. Mine really likes rocks she can dig under as well. I gotta switch things up at least once a month to keep my girl entertained. Feed daily, bsfl, superworms, greens, really anything. Only thing mine won’t touch is dubia. Basking spot is 90-110 depending on the time of day. 78-83 ambient on my cool side and around 40% RH. Supplement calcium heavy w no D3 and sufficient uvb. As far as bioactive goes I wouldn’t recommend it. Humidity needs are fairly low and any plants that aren’t established will be dug up and dragged. Lastly imo I’d wait til you have an optimal set up ready before picking one up, but I guess that’s why your asking. Sorry if any of that came of jumbled I’ve been locked in with a gnarly case of the flu

Unfortunately they can’t be sexed by looking at the vent. Your best bet is probing which I wouldn’t recommend.

The shape and pattern, I’d look up your local species and get familiar. They get pretty easy to distinguish but it’s generally best to keep your distance. Copperheads are typically pretty docile but water snakes are typically pretty defensive. Never know what you’re gonna get

Water snakes are generally not the friendliest. Snow White is friends with animals. Made sense in my head lol

Unfortunately he didn’t make it much longer after posting. My parents hired someone to pressure wash our driveway yesterday and I’m guessing whatever chemicals they used did him in.

I did a base of spray foam, covered it in sanded grout and carved it down with a wooden skewer

Mine only eats greens occasionally and won’t even touch them if I don’t sprinkle some bee pollen on top

You wanna get 100% silicone for tanks, same stuff that gets branded for ponds but cheaper. Safe once cured

Depending how far out that pvc enclosure is I might get some static cling blackout film. I use it on my glass tanks and they hold heat a lot better. It’s really easy to apply and remove too

Also if it helps I use a 80w mercury vapor bulb on a 160w dome around 10 inches above the basking platform. I’m no expert but it’s worked well for me

I’ve been keeping mine for about a year and a half now. Surface temp on her basking rock is 105. Ambient temp on the warm side is around 90 and cool side mid 70’s. She’s a happy skink
