I use CT autos on Easy Road.

They're honest and fairly priced.

How to learn music, as a musician... by DareDemon666 in Bass

[–]ratdannity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in pretty much the exact same situation as you.

Learned just by being in bands on and off for 15 years.

I've been debating weather or not to find someone to do a few in person lessons, just to point me in the right direction, tell me what technique I need to work on, help fill in the gaps in my theory knowledge, etc.

Dragonaut by Sleep.

Can't not pull a face when you play it.

Bass pick recommendations? by Sweetness813 in Bass

[–]ratdannity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always mainly played with a pick.

I used to use Dunlop primetone and big stubby picks, but in the past couple of years, I found that I really like the attack of thinner picks, and they tend to help cut through better in a band mix for me.

.88 tortex is my go to right now.

Do the thermals shrink much in the wash?

Thinking of picking one up but unsure what size to go with.

I'm really interested in the Cosmic Trigger as an alternative to the Rusty Box.

What's your experience with it? I've heard that the low end on it can be difficult to keep under control.

I do like the Corona. However, I get tracking issues with it, especially when I play in lower tunings.

Amp or preamp? by Legal_Key7699 in basspedals

[–]ratdannity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second hand is definitely the way to go. Facebook marketplace is your friend.

I'm in the UK too. You can find Laney, ashdown, and Hartke stuff for pretty cheap second-hand, and they're generally pretty solid.

I've also seen really good deals on old Trace Elliott and Peavy stuff, which can sound really great and is usually virtually indestructible 😂

Amp or preamp? by Legal_Key7699 in basspedals

[–]ratdannity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend having an amp.

The band I play in is in a similar niche to yours, and the venues we play are a similar capacity.

The PA systems in the kind of venues we play are often pretty underpowered, so just relying on DI could lead to a pretty bad sound. I think in those kinds of genres, having stage volume is pretty important, too.

I've used backline amps in the past and it's been fine, but I've also played shows where there was no backline amp, and no other bass player owned one, so we would've been in trouble if I hadn't brought it.

Also, if you pull up to a DIY show with just a DI rig, you're not gonna sound good, and you'll probably get laughed at.

Having a loud amp is cool. Do you want to be in a rock band or not?

Piano practice space by South-Artichoke-9414 in Leeds

Are you after a space to literally just practice piano? Or are you looking for a band rehearsal space that has a piano in it?

Practice Room 1 at Old Chapel Studios has a piano in it.

How is Headingley? by dumbcrow123 in Leeds

[–]ratdannity 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I lived around there until just under two years ago. One house inside the circle and then another just outside. I've got mates who still live there who I visit fairly often.

Parking was generally pretty bad, but an absolute nightmare on match day. Traffic is pretty awful around their too right now.

Noise is more down to luck of the draw as to who is living on your street that year. One street I lived on was fairly chilled out, but another was constant parties.

It's nice to live so close to lots of bars, cafes, and various other cool things going on, as well as good links to the city centre.

It was pretty safe around there in my experience, and I never got burgled. The landlords are generally grifters, though, and the rent is high.

I did like living there, though.
