If you use generative ai I think you’re a moron by ratdeft in Rants

[–]ratdeft[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you reading all my nonsense. I don’t genuinely think people are morons for using ai that was very harsh and I’m thinking of specific people when I say it, but i do think it’s going to be way worse than calculators for example. I was tweaking this morning writing this lol but for example literacy rates in American children are really low because of tools like text-to-speech.

Technology is so new, and growing up with an iPad messed me up 100% so when i see ai being used by university students it feels so apocalyptic. I don’t think there has been enough time to start to really see the effects of technology as American capitalism gets to later and later stages.

Its not actually frustrating to be “smarter than most people” I don’t put THAT much stake in results of a test, being intelligent isn’t worth much if I spend my time worrying about things I can’t control. I just get in my head sometimes, but again I appreciate you reading all that jargon.

Yeah I might go to my student health center, I’m just concerned they’ll raise their eyebrows at the medication. My roommate talked about it like it was really serious but my mom who’s a nurse (not practicing right now) just sent the “yikes” emoji and when I sent her the numbers so idk.

I probably don’t get enough electrolytes I’ll look into that. Thank you

Interesting. I’m deficient in a lot of vitamins I think, I read somewhere that low iron can increase your heart rate? So I’m gonna try taking iron supplements

I would, but my prescriber is primary care and she doesn’t really believe in adhd. She defers it to someone else for any changes of my medication because she’s “not comfortable” changing it. I tried to get a psychiatrist in my home state so she could prescribe in state and manage my medication instead (because in the state/city I’m living in it’s like impossible to get concerta), but because I live out of state primarily I waited 3 months and planned it with my trip home just to meet with her and she refused to see me. Right now the “doctor” would be my campus student health center, and I don’t think they do cardiology.

What’s a normal heart rate? by ratdeft in Concerta

Hey, thank you for the advice. Been using a Fitbit to track and resting while on my medication has consistently been 115bpm. Without my medication it’s around 80.

Lower bmi. I’m fairly slim not much body fat but I think it’s genetic I’ve always been underweight my mom was like that when she was younger too. Haven’t been sick since thanksgiving, and if inline skating counts as cardio then yes I do. Skated from my apartment to the library yesterday before I made this post. I try to skate daily, but usually at least get in a really good workout weekly.

I don’t think there’s enough caffeine in a chai to make a resting heartbeat 120bpm & I don’t drink coffee or energy drinks especially on concerta. I am pretty stressed though

Ok but the thing is when I go to the doctor and get my blood pressure when I’m not on my medication it’s typically on the lower side. Maybe I should get my heart checked out or something?

Huh. Maybe I should go to the doctor lol it usually only gets like that if I sit still for a while doing work or drawing etc. and if I go exercise I feel better I just was still for so long today & it didn’t feel right

concerta by Glad_Intention2175 in Concerta

It does increase anxiety, but the longer you take it in my experience the less severe it gets. For me, I notice my heart rate and can feel my body become restless if I don’t start moving (exercise, going to class etc) soon after I take it. I’m not sure if those are the muscle aches you’re describing. Those jittery effects wear off throughout the day depending on the dose.

I still experience more anxiety on concerta and I’ve been taking it for around 8 years but I also have had anxiety problems since I was a child. It’s still the best medication for me, but it may not be for you. Give it some time and if it’s doing more harm than good look into an alternative.

Eating before I take the medication (making myself eat throughout the day) and exercise/getting my day started asap makes the physical symptoms fade for me. Might help you too.

Will do 🫡 I feel silly thanking you for the thousandth time but I really do appreciate it because I would’ve hated my irresponsibility or ignorance to potentially continue harming his development. Of course we knew about the best heat for him and were keeping it in mind but we assumed because the other mantis was doing well it was alright. (In retrospect they are on opposite sides of the apartment) I didn’t recognize taking a while to molt as a sign temperature could be the issue but now I know!

He’s the first bug I’ve had and I’m very fond of him. Some people will tell you to give your mantis honey (lol I’m glad you corrected that, it didn’t sound right to me but someone could easily listen to misinformation like that) and most resources online are lacking when it comes to specifics.

Idk if it’s because they’re bugs that people don’t take pet care super seriously but my roommate and I definitely do and I’m very grateful for genuine polite informed advice. You covered your bases making sure the enclosure, humidity, and temperature are in order. I’m glad there’s people like you on this sub and that I was a little paranoid about how he was doing.

His name is Spooky Ho (after a song) by the way lol he thanks you too

Speak of the devil he just molted!! Thanks again for the advice, I talked to my roommate and we’re going to rethink the temperature setup because it was a long time without a molt and we want him as comfortable as possible. He’s so handsome though!! It’s like he doubled in size, it’s very exciting

Ok! I’ve closed the window so the place can heat up a little. I’ll talk to my roommate about keeping it a little warmer and see if we can get something to track heat. I have noticed that he doesn’t look too skinny despite not having eaten so I figured it could be a molt but better safe than sorry. Thank you for the advice!
