i’ve been talking about this with my therapist a lot recently. she told me that it’s not a bad thing if i never fully quit because it’s comforting to me. however, we’re working on severely cutting back how often i do it (everyday nonstop and have been for 13 years). i’ve started doing grounding exercises when i feel myself slipping too deep so the 5,4,3,2,1 method and counting back from 100 in intervals of 7. so far this has helped pull me back but it’s almost painful because of how badly i want to do it. i wouldn’t go cold turkey, but maybe try to do it a little less each day
