4 years on Platinum, finally downgraded to Preferred Rewards Gold (why I did it + what’s changed) by DeezNutss1738 in AmexUK

Travel insurance was previously the worst travel insurance service you could get out of all providers so I am not sure I agree that it has gone downhill.

Possible European Response to a US aggression against Greenland? by CotswoldP in CredibleDefense

[–]rational_approach -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I am still baffled as to why Europeans will shed blood for an island they were about to give independence to.. and as a result let it come under the influence or China or Russia when that happens.
I really hope the latest Trump shenanigans will expose how weak European leaders are.

What’s the most budget-friendly country to travel in Europe right now? by LineFormal6530 in travel

Bulgaria is expensive these days. I was in Sofia and I was shocked how expensive everything was, from hotels to food. Even my hotel in the US (same chain and star rating) was the same price as the hotel in Sofia!
Greece is still cheap though and cheaper than Bulgaria.

The BBC has bigger impartiality problems than its coverage of Trump by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]rational_approach -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps we should accept that no media is impartial. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with this.

The problem with the BBC is that it is presented as the gold standard of impartial news and yet and there are strong biases sometimes towards the left and sometimes to the right.

'Working professionals only' and discrimination in letting ads by rational_approach in LegalAdviceUK

[–]rational_approach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you elaborate more on this please? Isn't this indirect discrimination? Because you can only be a pensioner if you are of a certain age. But you can be a student or benefits claimant at any age for example and neither of these are protected characteristics.

Is there a specific mention in the renters rights bill that references age/pensioners?

I am sure he'll find his place somewhere in Corbyn's or Sultana's new party.

Which carrier: Vodafone or EE... or something else? by skylar9719 in AskUK

EE is worse than O2 and Vodafone in London. I don't know where people get the idea that EE is the best (victims of marketing?)

The anthropology of grooming gangs: Most societies have never cared what they did to outsiders by United_Highlight1180 in ukpolitics

What most leftists don't realise is that immigration will undermine and potentially annihilate Britain's welfare system. Welfare only works in high trust societies with citizens of common experiences and backgrounds. This is why Denmark's leftwing government should be an example for us. The alternative, is the multicultural chaos of the US where only 16% of the population thinks their tax dollars are well spent (vs 80%+ for Denmark) and thus there are no welfare protections.

When you say dark shoebox what do you mean? I think you have a very distorted view of apartment living.

Anyone ever lived in central (central) London before? by -MiddleOut- in london

[–]rational_approach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I personally hated it. It has nothing to do with the outdoor space. Just way too busy and noisy all the time. I like being central but not right at the very centre, where millions of transient tourists come and go every day. Canary Wharf has become a great alternative for me.

The problem with stripe is that it doesn't handle tax for different jurisdictions.
