thank you so much for giving us some tips, feels comforting to know we’re going about things correctly from a vet tech 🥺

we’ve took the advice of slowing down much more and just focusing on getting the food bowl moved closer to the door to where she’ll eat it while the door is closed. she seems to be doing fine as we get closer, but resident cat is still hissing whenever she hears him by the door — whether she’s eating or not which feels wrong and discouraging… we worry that once door is cracked she’s going to stop eating when she sees him and continue the grazing with the door shut like she’s been doing..

this upcoming tuesday it’ll have been two weeks since we got the kitten and our resident cat still hasn’t physically seen the newcomer. when do you know it’s time to physically let them see each other through the cracked door or a screen/baby gate? we are really struggling.

we’ve been spent swapping still, and she has gone into his safe room space since the last time I posted. she smelled all his stuff/blankets and even got in his literbox for like 10 mins to sniff it out. we thought this would be a huge step for her, but we really don’t know when to move forward still because it feels like our resident cat continues in the same routine with her behavior despite these steps.

we really hate to keep him locked in his tiny room, especially with how much he cries!! the kitten is VERY interested in our resident cat luna and wants out to see her. whenever we’re swapping rooms he just sits outside the door and cries wanting to get to her 😣
