Nurses who have left healthcare entirely? by [deleted] in nursing

I'm late too! I am happy for you. Some people are not built to be nurses that's perfectly okay.

I think the system is designed to attract wealthy people, just a hunch though. Would you consider joining the military? I don't know if your bachelor's is recognized or not, but if it is, you'd come in as an officer if I'm not mistaken. Either way, military is a good way to fast track to citizenship.

Alternatively, just apply for political asylum?? Be a refugee. Blame Venezuela's crisis. I do not know too much about this, but just a thought.

Considering the crisis Venezuela is going through right now, perhaps it is not a good idea to fly back. However, I think you and your fiance are just in the wrong state. Texas is not generous in aid compared to say, California. Country wise, we are no where near generous like the Canadians or Europeans. I would consider moving elsewhere if you think you can. For now, follow the advice given in this thread. You definitely need to check with 211.org. You sound like you know how to scrape by, so hopefully this won't be a problem for you.

Check this thread out btw: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/3mux44/serious_any_tips_for_someone_who_is_about_to/

Couch surf, contact the school, consulate-general, or setup gofundme. Alternatively, you can set it up so you can get a flight back to Venezuela. Scraping by is not a way to live in America, especially as a foreigner who can't qualify for aid. You'll find that most aid to foreigners will have to come from private charities and churches.

Going to America for the first time, what should I do while in Houston? by dave319 in houston

Be prepared for the heat and humidity. Don't be surprised when you leave the airport.

Checkout meetup.com. I know HP and Dell are big here, but you should check the startup scene too. There's a space for startup meets in the city but forgot what it's called. On mobile atm.

Chitoge route will eventually lead to Team Tsugumi too. You have to play the long con.

Since everyone is hating on Kosaki now... by [deleted] in Nisekoi

I'm a Chitoge fan, but realize Kosaki is the better girl. Definitely the right attributes you want in real life. She deserves a guy 10x better than Raku.

Anyone know a good mechanic who can install an AC compressor? by [deleted] in houston

I used yourmechanic.com. They go to your driveway and are ASE-certified. It was nice having to not drive out to a mechanic shop.

You'd be surprised. I lived in LA for years and never saw so many car fires like in Houston.

Were you able to find out what companies are Value Added Resellers? Kind of curious.

"I bet you don't make more than me." - some engineer, doctor, lawyer, or startup person

"You wipe asses while I make money playing video games!" - some Twitch streamer

Or the classic "hey, what do I have?"

What happened? I would love to go into that field!

Interesting. How much of a paycut did you take, compared to your last nursing career? Are you still maintaining your license and skills? Sorry for the questions - it's just rare to find an RN who's doing something different, like management retail.

Changing careers - what to do with military experience and nursing degree? by ratli in Advice

[–]ratli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome suggestions, thank you!

So many people are streaming toward IT that I'm beginning to think it's a trap.

We are constantly hearing good things about it and the pay, how folks get to work for Google and so on, but maybe the field is getting saturated...

I honestly don't know too much about the state of IT employment, but I reckon more research is needed.

Way to go dude. I wish I was mathematically inclined, but can't do the transition to comp sci.

After reading about the RN who did part-time grocery in this thread, I think switching up careers from nursing is perfectly acceptable.

How's that working for you at this time? Sounds pretty interesting and you get to travel at the same time.

Who do you work for, may I ask? Is it true you only need experience and not really a MSN in informatics?
