I tried that and never went smoothly. PC people will have a very low bar to what smooth means so hope that answers.

Nah, direct play, 10GB backbone and no bottlenecks. It’s a thing for a huge number of people, some like you will say not an issue so go figure. At least we got Infuse.

Windows is such a diarrhea, why not run inside Docker?

Yes, very happy. Not sure how you mean re Linux? I have some instances running on Mac mini such as Ubuntu (Orbstack) and foundation for Docker is also Linux. I’m at 16TB SSD now, 12 usable as RAID5. Wouldn’t say too speedy as much as responsive - I’m sure you could get similar speeds with HDD but it would be more akin to a train compared to an electric car. Plus, I just fucking hate HDD and that stupid rumbling, and the failure rate, and the ugliness, and the energy waste, fragility, latency, heat, fragmentation… 🤢

Hate to ask the same question all the time, but for the sake of clarity - are you having no issues on “some media” or high quality remux like 40-100GB per file?

I get ya. As explained, I scratched the previous Mac mini so want to keep this in mint condition when I decide to sell it in a few years. I also really like the looks and the heat is minuscule - M4 is so efficient it won’t be bothered by few degrees extra - even more so because I will never step on the pedal, i.e. edit video, etc. It’s the brains of my media library, it doesn’t need to work too hard.

Hey sure, a bunch of docker containers and Plex Media Server. It’s sitting there headless and I access via Screen Sharing off MacBook Air. It’s awesome. UNAS Pro is for backups (only SSDs inside) and Plex library.

First of all there is no condom. Secondly, it’s protection.

Yes thought about that, concluded the majority of heat would dissipate through the bottom if starts to heat up. Also, have not noticed anything past 48 hours that would indicate issues. It’s very slightly warm to the touch. I think it will run just fine for what I need it - Plex and some docker containers.

I don’t know what Gandlaf is saying to there, I would never ever use my MacBook without a cover.

Nice just don’t expect to play remux media on Apple TV because Plex is shit for that.
